While at first site 6′3″ and 240 pound Jay Cutler may be just another face in the Denver Broncos American football team there is much more to this young man than meets the eye. He starred in last week’s game although many people are unaware he actually suffers from type I diabetes, a condition which has seen many athletes throw in the towel and call it a day. A team of scientists from Warwick University have opened up a very interesting debate about diabetes induced kidney disease which can have a terrifying impact upon the life of a diabetic. The team has found a direct link between thiamine and the ongoing problem of kidney disease amongst diabetes patients. It has long been known that diabetes patients commonly have a deficiency of thiamine which can lead to problems with kidneys as various proteins can be lost through urine.

While in many ways the sign of a great director is the standard of their films there are very few directors who are larger than even their best movies. George Lucas is the director who created Star Wars and has gone on to have a great career as an independent director/producer with a personal fortune estimated in the region of $4 billion. Unfortunate, as with so many of the more famous diabetics his condition receives little comment in the press which is a little disappointing as it could well be an inspiration to many sufferers.

Elvis Aaron Presley is without doubt the most popular and most famous singer of all time but many people are not aware that Elvis was actually one of the most famous diabetics of all time. He lived the life of a true rockabilly rockstar which many believe to be the main reason for his premature death on 16 August 1977 aged just 42.

As we enter the festive period health experts have released a serious warning that over-eating and excessive drinking over the Christmas and New Year period could have serious implications for your health in the short, medium and longer term. Apart from the fact that over eating and excessive alcohol is detrimental to your general health there is also the added risk that it could move towards the first stage of developing type II diabetes.

Astrazeneca, the leading worldwide drug company, has today announced a deal with medical research company Biocompatibles which could see the emergence of a major treatment for diabetes and obesity. While Biocompatibles is the vastly smaller partner in the deal they have a reputation for bringing new drugs and new technology to the market with the help of larger partners.

The EarlyBird Diabetes study, which was released over the last few days, has introduced a number of alarming conclusions into the argument as to why diabetes is on the increase. It is well-known that type II diabetes is closely related to obesity but the fact that the doctors now seem able to target potentially obese children as young as five years old is both alarming and a potentially major breakthrough.

As the onslaught of diabetes continues with numbers set to mushroom over the next few years the insurance industry is starting to show signs of interest in diabetes test results. There are grave concerns that the insurance company will soon introduce a number of health tests in order to try and calculate premiums related to a specific person or group of people and diabetes seems to be top of the list.
But is it correct for insurance companies to possibly demand diabetes testing for customers who maybe do not want to know that they suffer from diabetes?

As the subject of diabetes continues to grab the attention of many in the public domain there can be some confusion and misunderstanding about the symptoms which potential diabetic sufferers will experience. We hereby close a list of possible symptoms of both type I diabetes and type II diabetes although it must be noted that many of the symptoms listed can also relate to other illnesses and conditions.
