The recurrence of gestational diabetes in pregnant women who have been previously diagnosed with the condition increases after the second pregnancy. This conclusion was reached through the efforts of experts from the Kaiser Permanente study published online at the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
The study comprised of 65,132 women and the comparison was made between those who had gestational diabetes and those who did not develop the condition in their first and second pregnancies. Those that had the condition in their first pregnancy but did not have it during the second child would have a 630 percent chance of developing gestational diabetes if they get pregnant a third time. For those who had gestational diabetes in their first two pregnancies, these women would have an almost 26% chance of recurring the condition for the third child bearing stint. [click to continue…]
