I`m sorry to ask this, but could someone please give me words of comfort.
Since i have been diagnosed type 1,and my experiences,i have become paranoid that the food and drug people are conspiring to get everyone on medication. Is diabetes an illness? or is diabetes a symptom of the modern diet that is presented to us.I am informed that diabetes is a result of my own immune system attacking my own pancreatic islet cells.Once these cells are gone, they are gone for good.No one seems to know why this happens.I have been told at the hospital that i wasn`t making insulin,so i had to have injections, when i pleaded to stay off the insulin to the doctor, she told me i would undo all their good work.I really am suspicious that the health folks in southern ireland are getting people on to insulin when they don`t need it.All they need is a change in diet, and more exercise. When i told my doctor about the sugar free bread that was being sold to people with diabetes, that sends my reading higher than normal bread does he didnt say anything.I keep getting more and more paranoid |

Hello
If you are truly a type 1 diabetic, you must have insulin because your pancreas cannot make insulin.Low carb diet will decrease the amount of insulin you must take but insulin is required FOR TYPE 1 DIABETIC OR YOU WILL SUFFER HORRIBLE THINGS LIKE KIDNEY FAILURE,BLINDNESS, LIMB AMPUTATION OR DEATH BY HEART ATTACK. If I were in your place,I would ask my doctor to prove to me that I am indeed a type 1 diabetic.Type 2 diabetics can sometimes control their glucose levels with diet and exercise but sometimes diabetes pills or insulin are required for type 2 diabetics. Good luck Eddie |

Thanks eddie for taking the trouble to reply.I am in such a mental state because i cannot bring myself to trust the doctors over here,[those at the hospital, the hospital specialist in particular].My number comes down on its own,so my pancreas is working. Therefore i do not have type 1,i figured that much for certain. What would happen to me if i took insulin injections when my meter number was normal?a hypo?
When i was in hospital my experiments showed that injecting the apidra was keeping my readings a little higher than normal. When i faked an injection and managed to get my number down to normal, and showed the nurse the normal reading, then i am woken up to find the nurse with a needle in my arm. This makes me think that because i had managed to get a normal reading, she knew i had not taken the insulin.I was glad to get out of the place. Thanks again for reply. |

Can you get a glucose tolerance test? This tests for diabetes. Here in USA,individual doctors can administer this test. Can you purchase a glucose meter and test strips? If so,the following will give you a good idea of your profile: 1.Measure your glucose when you awake in the morning 2.Measure your glucose 1 hour after and 2 hours after meals.Note the foods that you consumed for the meal 3.Measure your glucose before you go to bed Eddie |

hello eddie,i`ve been measuring with truetrack meter for about 4 months now.I`ve cut bread out of my diet during the last 48 odd hours, and my reading has been 5.5 to 6 .Hopefully the starch i need will come from the carrots/potatoe/and small amounts of sweetcorn in my mixed veg.I am strangly experiencing a sort of withdrawl from not eating bread,i could murder a few slices of hot buttered toast, lol.
Thanks for replying.Curedit. |

wow, you sure seem to be at odds with everyone and everything.
i am also in southern ireland, and my daughter has type 1 she was diagnosed 4 years ago age 10, we were devestated as she already has cystic-fibrosis. if you are type 1 you should be measuring your carbs not sugar content of food. its carbs that send up your BSL. if you have a carb free meal, ie 2 slices ham, scrambled egg and salad, you will not need insulin, if you have a steak, you will not need insulin, i am sure you have been told all this by your dietitian.i am interested to know how old you are, and if you attend a city hosp, or a clinic. there is an excellent book called Diabetes type 1 by Dr Ragnar Hanas. it answers every question you can think off. i feel you need to stop fighting your illness, relax, and do the very best for yourself. i think insulin is the 8th wonder of the world, and remember dealing with diabetes is an art not a science.good luck. stop slaggin southern ireland. ![]() |
