bladder neuropathy

My dear Ronnie has had to empty his bladder frequently, on a periodic basis. Sometimes it is every few minutes, to every hour or so. Sometimes he only empties a very small amount but still has to empty again in a few minutes. Now since shoulder surgery Oct.29, he has had to have a catheter in his bladder because he could not empty his bladder completely. He was actually able to empty less than he retained.
Does this sound like neuropathy. I have neglected to mention that he has been chronicle constipated since his brain hemorrhage in January.
How is this problem treated??

Belinda, your post has bothered me since yesterday when I read it.

I haven't heard of neuropathy specifically in the bladder, but I have heard of urinary incontinence caused by diabetes that I suppose must be some form of that.

Certainly diabetic neuropathy has a nasty way of finding weak areas of the body and not always in the ways that we read about, e.g., hands, feet, heart, eyes, and stomach.

I suppose Ronnie's been screened for enlarged prostate by now - that could be the cause of that problem as well.

Not moving around much I think exacerbates the constipation problem which is common enough for us. That is, days without bowel movements followed by a day or two of loose stool.

Of course, everything is somewhat confounded given Ronnie's recent troubles and may be related to his other complications and/or drug therapies.

Hopefully, his glucose and diet are under control as that will be helpful all the way around.

I'm praying for health and strength for you both!

I'm sorry, I wish I could help but I also have the same problem. I do not have a lack of feeling when needing to urinate, but the opposite problem- it feels too sensitive. And I urinate too often- even if it's just a small stream (sorry for the TMI). I have had an ultrasound, my kidneys have been checked...everything was normal apparently...and so in a month I'm seeing a urologist.

I am assuming that the problem could be the complication the poster above said. I read about this and it does seem to correlate with the symptoms.

I hope you (and I) can find some answers soon.

I have noted when I have taken in too much artificial sweeteners that my bladder becomes irritated and I pee constantly. When I have cut them back,no issues and I pee like every few hours or so with no sensitivity. Could be enlarged prostate, could also be sweeteners, could be many things. Start documenting what you eat/drink and note times and see what you learn from that. I also have chronic constipation from the IBS/and LCHF, doesnt happen all the time but I have bouts once a month.

Surprisingly, Ronnie has only judt recently gone through a round of tests for prostate enlargment. He will have a vaportrode TURP on Jan. 15. He has not had a PSA since 2009. I hope a prostate biopsey is part of the surgery.
I hadn't thought of artificial sweetners causing bladder irritation. Hmmmmmm., checking for the cause by food is a great idea..

I suffered through a similar thing. Kidneys fine, bladder was fine (and the camera they put up there to check it is the same size as the one they film IMAX with I think).

It turned out that I was having lower urinary tract infections, but they rarely made it to the bladder. Same symptoms though. I found that taking D-Mannose, or the concentrated form of cranberry sugar, was the only thing that helped. If you drink enough cranberry juice to get that much D-Mannose, you will be taking in way too much sugar or artificial sweetener. You can get it online for cheaper than locally in most cases. It can be added to almost any beverage, it adds a little bit of sweetness and a teaspoon a day or so is all you need.

Will that affect blood sugars?
