Pork Rinds

Is this the snackin pork rinds kept in the potatoe chip dept???

Patdart 03-31-2013 22:21

Yes, but make sure they are the 'fluffy' ones. The others are good, but these are really good and also make a good substitute for bread crumbs in meatloaves!

The very same, Jazz, and you can use them for more than just snacks. As Pat says, crush them into powder and you can use them in any recipe that calls for bread crumbs - even as breading on fried foods. One of my favorite biscuit recipes uses them and I keep a bag of finely powdered rinds on hand all the time.

Love chicharrones!! My fave is to make taco meat with guacamole, sour cream and cheese and use the pork rinds instead of tortilla chips! Yum!

Just a note for those who can't find them in grocery stores: they can often be found at convenience stores.

Try to buy those made on there own fat and not fried in vegetable oil.

They are usually on the bottom row, because they are not big sellers. Took me a while to find them at my grocer.

^^^Interesting. It must be regional because here in West Texas, there is a large section in the chip aisle, and a display up front near the check out. I have been eyeing the chili and lime flavored ones but haven't tasted them yet. ;-)

Just be sure to check the label before you buy them, because the flavored ones often have hidden carbs in the flavoring ingredients. The plain ones are safe.

Warning, warning, warning. I ate some BBQ flavored pork rinds. Data table said carbs = 0. List of ingredients said Sugar. Pork rinds are 0 carb. Flavoring was not. They spiked me. Just sayin
