The article/study below talks about how certain true teas (Black, Oolong, and Green Tea) helps to decrease BGs and increase insulin activity. I'm particularly interested in Green Tea, but my question is,... Do I want increased insulin? Wouldn't that cause me to gain weight or burn out my pancreas (like medications such as GLIP)???
This is quite interesting. I wonder if this study was considered for patients who are Type 2 with diminished insulin activity. I mean, I don't think that this will repair or regenerate fried beta cells, but it is interesting nonetheless. I myself love oolong tea and could drink it all the time. However, it does make me need to tinkle quite a bit when I drink it. Perhaps it helps to flush toxins as well?

I get the same effect from any kind of real tea: black, green, white, oolong, whatever. I avoid tea for that reason; I've known for at least 30 years that for me, tea acts as a potent diuretic. (The darker the tea, the stronger the effect.)
But here's the thing. Isn't it true that we don't want increased insulin activity? That we want to keep our insulin low, but still be able to cover our carbs (I'm on LCHF, no meds now) so as to not gain weight or, especially, not burnout our beta islets???
Bree, I'm not sure it would be the same as taking a medication to increase insulin production, such as a sulfonlyrea. I think this should have been a bit clearer in the article, but since it really does not make a comparison, I don't know that it can be assumed that the insulin production would be the same as with a medication.
But yes, our objective is to keep our need for insulin low since our production and release of insulin may be impaired as Type 2's. I use insulin, therefore I definitely attempt to use the least amount as possible. So, because I'm not majorly scientific, I cannot answer for sure. I guess you may be right, however someone like MCS or Salim or Daytona need to chime in here since they have the understanding and scientific minds.
