When I eat bacon or sausage and eggs and cheese, I usually get no spike at all. The only thing to be careful of is I see you take glyberide. Do you take that at breakfast? It will works regardless of your carb intake. So if you don't eat any carbs you may go too low. I would talk to your doctor or maybe switch the timing of your med. Some mornings I will have a small snack when I first wake up like some nuts or low carb coconut oil treats. I know those things won't spike me. Later in the morning I will eat a heavier breakfast like eggs, low carb waffles, etc.

if you choose to do that, I would eat some carb within 2-3 hours at least of taking it. Glyburide has an onset of action at around 2-4 hours. You could find yourself bottoming out. You could always be sure that if you have carbs at breakfast that you be sure it is a slow-digesting, complex carb..that might head off that spike for you.

LOL - I can't TBP... no carbs = crashing, and plus I'm pregnant, so I don't want to eliminate entire food groups.

Yeah, if I skip carbs at breakfast, I would eat them with my snack two hours later. I take my evening dose at 5pm, and if I don't eat by 7:30 I start crashing.

I'm not completely off grains/cereals like some others, but I limit mine very strictly to about 15g per day, and only if my BG levels are well under control.

As far as morning goes ... If my fasting levels are in the 4's (70-85) I will have a single piece of toast (I eat either a 15g carb low-gi bread, or 13g carb sprouted grain) with peanut butter (natural) and no-sugar jam in addition to eggs and a piece of bacon or ham.

If I sleep in (had a cold lately, so it's been happening) I get a liver dump (dawn phenomenon) and then I instead have an large omelette or bacon and eggs with a small serving of fruit. (I normally limit my fruit to berries, cherries or granny smith apples).

I try to limit my carbs to under 100g a day (most days are around 60-75g), and most of those carbs are veggies and lower-gi fruit.

The other thing I do is if I DO eat a higher-carb meal, about 45 minutes later I'm on my bike doing cardio to burn off excess sugars... Seems to help me.

I have started to eat sprouted grain bread. Since it is not made with flour and the grains are a complete protein with all the amino acids it seems it is a lot friendlier to my bgs. I buy the Eziekel brand. It is a good way to eat some healthy carbs and not spike very much. That way you don't have to eliminate a food group.

So one hour after just protein my number was 112... bah. I think my numbers are just going up b/c we're at the end of my pregnancy. My post meal numbers have been a good 20-30pts higher than they used to be.

Just going to have to make sure I'm eating whole grains and whole foods for carbs. Cut back one serving of carbs if I have to.

Fasting is still good though- 71 today... not sure if I'm building up a tolerance for the meds or if it's the 3rd trimester... this stuff is so frustrating.

I can just think that to avoid Carbohydrates all together if you don't do anything physical in your day. When I was younger I had Porridge (Oatmeal) for breakfast with honey, Dried Apricots, Powdered Chocolate with milk then I am on the bike to work. I get to test when I arrive at work and I am low!!! As the low didn't affect me I ate some more. Then I am on my feet all day as whell. Back then I was quite trim as the carbs I ate I get to use it up.

Carbs are like fuel in a car. If you don't use it, You will be fat!!!

Very true... when I was younger I was a dancer, but had a knee injury. When I stopped dancing 6 days a week, I started gaining.

Same with my husband, he rode his bike everywhere, as soon as he got his first car, he gained a bunch of weight.
