Did you test before you ate breakfast? Could DP have been at work and BG was already elevated by the time you ate? (I'm not sure if T1s are affected as much by DP as T2s are.)

I rejoice with you in the turnaround in your BG control with LCHF. You must be very happy to have found this tool.

since the spike this morning my blood sugar has leveled out to 105-116. If I can keep this up until my endo appt in January, I'm gonna record his reaction to my A1C. I'm also gonna break his heart when he asks me how I did it.

Keep up the good work!!!!

Do you think he would believe you if you told him that you thought he was the one that suggested LCHF?

Have you read Dr. Richard Bernstein's book Diabetes Solution? Some of it is available on-line. His chapter on the "Rule of Small Numbers", less carbs, less insulin, less chance of mistake, and smoother BG numbers.

update: I'ts been a week since I started eating LCHF and I couldn't be happier. My sugar levels have been just that, level. highest reading in 7 days was 170, lowest was 86. A normal week for me before would have been 40 to 300+. I feel so much better physically and mentally. As more time passes, I'm finding it easier to avoid high carb, starchy foods and I am more motivated now than ever. I want to thank you guys for the info on this forum. It has literally changed my life. I only wish I had started doing this years ago.

bassnthru....welcome aboard, I am sorry I was not here earlier as you are already on your way! I am 66 type 2 diabetic. I found this website in April of 2015, and after reading Blood Sugar 101 I decided to jump on this LCHF lifestyle starting on May 1,2015! When I started my A1c was at 7.9, I weighed 320lbs. at 6'1". My blood pressure was up to 135/92 and my feet were burning at night.

Six months after I followed LCHF eating staying under 100 carbs per day, my new numbers were: A1c 5.8! My weight 270! My blood pressure consistent at 120/80...and within 12 months my Cholesterol was normal! My doctor questioned what I was doing a few times, but as I improved I became his "poster child" for retired men with diabetes....! Now almost two years later my A1c has stayed 5.8-6.2, weight +- 2 lbs. of 270m and blood pressure at 120/75....Cholesterol still normal.

During this last year I stopped taking a statin drug, reduced my daily injection of slow acting insulin from 126units to 25units.....

What's not to like, you are on this same road....so be creative in finding new things to eat...my favorite go to Sonic Drive Inn and order a double cheese burger with mustard and all the fixings but no Catsup please. Order a diet cherry limeade and no fry's.....Then eat the hamburger but not the buns....it is a bit messy, but oh so good! I use the lower bun half to hold the while I slip the contents in my mouth one bite at a time.....

Good Luck

Buy the way a couple of warnings, when your weight stops to drop, as it probably already is...you will be losing lots of salt and water. So if you feel tired in the afternoons or get dizzy, take some salt as your electrolytes are off. I experienced this so I added salt to much of my food, and I still do...it worked right away! Also, if you are tired do a fat bomb....as a pick me up...my favorite is Coffee with heavy whipping cream added, and artificial sweetener if you like it that way. I do one every morning to kick off my day!

In January I plan to start reducing my daily carb intake to less than 50, I think this will kick my weight down a bit more.....but after the holidays I think!
