Default starting LCHF as of today

I was diagnosed diabetic 15 years ago and have struggled with A1C ever since. my best was 7.2 last summer. since then it has increased to 7.8 as of 10/2016. After reading posts on this forum I am hopeful that the LCHF diet can help me regulate my glucose levels. I ate a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast before finding this forum. that was 32 carbs alone. since then I ate some sliced ham, turkey and cheese for lunch and a dill pickle. be patient with me as I may be asking lots of questions on this journey. I want to get my A1C under 6 if I can, but would be happy with under 7. any help is appreciated.

Hey, we're all in this together - ask away.

When I started LCHF it was the exact opposite of how I had been eating (HCLF) and was definitely an adjustment. But I started getting results pretty quickly and that was the wind, I mean hurricane, at my back. Won't pretend I don't miss oatmeal, but this recently became quite a decent alternative: Store bought low-carb hot cereal

I have been misinformed about my eating habits. I was under the impression oatmeal was better for me than eggs and bacon. tomorrow, I am going to scramble 2 eggs in real butter and have some bacon. I am also going to start eating real food instead of all the low fat, sugarfree, "healthy" stuff that is being pushed on us daily.

I was misinformed too, I was told how healthy oatmeal was, only to have my meter tell me that it was making my BG jump up to over 250 mg/dL. That quickly went from the nice to naughty list.

just doing a review of my diet for the past year. I was averaging 235 carbs per day. This was doing what my doctor and a dietician recommended. yesterday I had 80 carbs all day following some advice on here and was never hungry. my Blood sugar never got above 125. I did splurge on an apple and an orange so I know I can do better. As of right now I'm at 35 carbs for today and feel great.

Cutting way back on carbs may cause some cravings at first, but those should soon subside. Have something zero carb on hand to snack on if the urge for something carby hits, i.e. cheese, nuts, pork rinds, fat bombs, etc.

I snack on pork rinds, cauliflower, broccoli, sliced meat with cheese. It gets me through for a couple of hours. I never really got hungry today, yesterday I didn't eat anything until lunch. I got a little hungry before lunch but not bad. I can do this. I see carbs everywhere now and skip right on by to a better alternative.

You know of course that you're not alone, that most of us got the same or similar instructions/advice. I'm not sure it will ever stop infuriating me that doctors and dieticians are ensuring their patients' diabetes progresses as advertised, and that they have to take more and more medication and insulin.

Congratulations on seeking out other information and on making the changes you have.

Your report is a joy to read.

6 carbs for breakfast. 3 scrambled eggs cooked in real butter and covered in 1/4 cup shredded cheese and 2 slices of bacon.

5 carbs for lunch. 1 cup turnip greens and a grilled chicken breast.

my fasting blood sugar was 99. two hours after breakfast, it was 145. Not sure why it came up so much, I may not have counted the carbs right. but if I had ate my normal oatmeal breakfast, I would have used 10 times more insulin and it still would have went over 260. Bacon and eggs tasted so much better too.

I should also add, I didn't go to bed hungry, wake up hungry, nor was I hungry before lunch. My oatmeal would have been gone an hour after I ate it and I would have been looking for some more carbs before lunch. I think y'all may be on to something with eating LCHF.
