For now, here is a sample menu from the California Pacific Medical Centre for Diabetes management. Everyone has to experiment with different foods/beverages, meds., schedules, exercises, etc. and testing often to see what works for them best. If you find that there is too much food on this menu then feel free to cut some items off of it. More, small portion meals work "Whole wheat breads, brown rice are recommended" . Notice the word in between the food items says or not and. Did I mention exercise? Plus your 8 glasses of water daily. Good Luck Javis! *This Is Actually A Typical Diabetic Meal* -----------------------------------------Carbs BREAKFAST 1 small orange or ½ banana 15 gm 2 slices whole grain bread or 1 whole english muffin 30 gm 1 egg/egg substitute or 1-2 oz lowfat cheese/ham/turkey 45 gm Total 1 Tbsp tub margarine Coffee or tea or water SNACK 8 oz nonfat or lowfat milk or 15 gm 1 small fruit or ½ sandwich LUNCH 2 slices bread or 2 corn tortillas or 2/3 cup rice or 1 medium potato 30 gm 8 oz 1% lowfat milk or 1 small fruit 15 gm 3-5 oz meat, chicken or fish (not fried or breaded) 45 gm Total Vegetable and/or green salad (no limit) 1 Tsp mayonnaise or vinegrette dressing if desired Diet soda, coffee or tea or water SNACK 1 cup light yogurt (w/sugar substitute) or 15 gm 8 oz lowfat milk or 6 crackers or small fruit DINNER 2/3 cup pasta or 2/3 cup rice or 1 medium potato 30 gm 8 oz lowfat milk or small fruit 15 gm 3-5 oz fish, meat or chicken (not fried or breaded) 45 gm Total 1-2 cups vegetables (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, bok choy, pepper, spinach) Salad greens with lowfat dressing (if desired) Diet soda, coffee or tea or water 1 Tbsp sour cream or diet margarine SNACK 1 small fruit with ½ cup cottage cheese 15 gm or ½ sandwich or 8 oz lowfat milk or 1 cup light yogurt (w/sugar substitute) |

Good posting, Terrie!
I know that there are many differents customs that could vary from person to person, but, at least, you can get an idea of what is good for a diet, and use it as an example... Cheers, Javier Last edited by merien : 09-19-2007 at 02:27 PM. Reason: Language |

the world and this is just a sample menu of Canada and the US for an average person with a desk job. It would taketoo long for me to specifically pull out menus from around the world. Plus I could not be sure if they were accurate for the average person from the countries. But it would be Great if you and other Members could each post their favourite Diabetic menu of the day from their countries to share. ![]() Sorry, there is no magic pill for losing weight. Proper portions of healthy foods and exercise is still the Best way to go. It takes a fair amount of time to put the weight on so it also takes a fair amount of time to take it off. Same goes for if you are just trying to regulate your blood sugar. Don't give up though. You can do it. ![]() Last edited by Terrie : 09-20-2007 at 02:46 AM. |

Terrie,
Thanks for your comments and advices. I have to search for an article were someone said that the best eating customs from the ancient world was that of the old Greek and all mediterranean people. They use to eat a lot of proteins and almost no fats, as well they exercized their bodies almost all the time. I´m wondering why we can´t put our own customes more close to those of the mediterraneans? Cheers, JAvier |

![]() Well, Good you're being specific. People eat what they want now-a-days. Unfortunately, a lot of it is junk. With all the different foods that are being imported and exported you can get pretty much whatever you want to eat. Yes, the Greeks did eat protein but they also ate fruits and veggies. And no sugar. Their golden rule was, everything in moderation. Too much protein is bad for a Diabetics kidneys....I know. Of course, water helps to flush some of the toxins out of them. ![]() Until you find the site you are looking for, here's a few: About.com: http://www.eat-online.net/english/habits/greece/alimentary_habits.htm Recipes of Ancient Greece - Ancient Greek Recipes - Ancient Greek Foods Interview with Elaine Gavalas - Author of The Secrets of Fat-Free Greek Cooking - Greek Food |
