Animas one touch ping v. medtronic

I am newly diagnosed with type 1 (at agre 32) and am considering either the one touch ping or the medtronic pump, I cannot decide and frankly have no idea what I am doing. I want to make sure that I make a good decision; have met with the reps, but am still lost. Does anyone have any advice about these pumps?

I have the OneTouch Ping, and I love it. I like it because, since you have to check your blood any way, the pump comes with a OneTouch meter (which I've used for years), and the meter will deliver your bolus up to 10 feet without ever touching the pump. I also like it because my endo recommended it, and there were 4 to choose from in his office, and he liked the Ping best of them all.

Hellom Bailey, welcome aboard! I have been pumping for 2 years with the Minimed 522 and I like it very much but I do like what John says about the Ping. Maybe my next pump will be a Ping.

I have been Type 1 for 63 years and I am very healthy. You can get good control with a pump. With that control you have a great chance of living a long, healthy life. Good luck!

Hello Bailey,
I have been diabetic for 25 years and been on the Accu- Chek Spirit pump for the past 7 years. It works well but does not interract with a glucometer. You might want to have a look at the MiniMed Paradigm® REAL-Time Insulin Pump and Continuous Glucose Monitoring System. I cant post the link as the forum will not allow. This system reads your blood sugar levels in real time and transmitts the info to your pump. The down side is it's expensive to run.

The CGMS that has impressed me most is the Navigator by Abbott. It is rumored that the Navigator will be discontinued but the company denies the claim. I have seen several people post that it is an excellent CGMS.

This picture shows the Minimed pump at A & B and the Guardian CGMS at C & D. They are both Minimed products so they "talk" to each other.

I just attended a class put on by Animas (makers of the Ping) last night, and was told by the Animas rep that the Ping in their next generation of pump would also read a sensor on your body for CGMS. But it's not out yet, and their competition (MiniMed) pump is.

Im using a medtronic paradigm veo pump its the only pump ive evr been on and have only been using it for 4 weeks but i find it really easy to use its almost idiot proof im still alive anyway so thats proof lol good luck

sorry forgot to say if you get the bayer contour link it will send your blood results to the pump and you get access to the medtronic
carelink therapy management software its web based and it makes reports up for you graphs and the like i think its great
