Default 4.5 Day Quit smoking.. Stupid SYMPTOMS! ArGh!!!

I'm a chronic smoker before for 20 over years.. started since 12 or 14 which i can pretty remember. 50 to 60 sticks a day before....

I dont mind about the withdrawal and other symptoms... but the past few days, I been having ON and OFF running nose.. I am pretty sure it is not FLU or cold.

When will this running nose goes away ?? its affecting me, my focus and my diet...

I been eating a lot more and now i am always hungry after 1-2 hrs of dinner.. I try not to eat carbs but somehow I need it..

The cravings....... The Hunger................ And when I eat carbs, it shoots up to 8 to 10 mmol easy.. even 1/2 potato!!

My BS wasnt very good this morning and I took extra meds without my DRs advice, which is I add another Diamicron gliclazide 60mg with my Metformin.. I know I shouldnt do this but i cant see it creep over 8 to 10 mmol after meal when I am eating some rice or carbs... I try not to eat it but even 1/4 or 1/2 small Chinese bowl of rice will shoots around 8 to 10 mmol...

My Nose is sore and red and even the skin on my nose is bruise because i been using too much tissue....


I am now very stress up and I dont know if giving up smoking is actually GOOD for me??!?!?!?!??!

How can I make my running nose goes away??????

I never did figure that out, before it went away -- about a week?

But you could try antihistamines?

I used to smoke 30 - 40 a day. I quit soon after being diagnosed as diabetic.

Smoking is bad for anyone, but it's very bad for a diabetic (google smoking and diabetes)

You get hunger cravings because smoking artificially suppresses your appitite (I did read somewhere that it causes the liver to dump glucose in your bloodstream, not what a diabetic needs)

It is hard, but stick with it, after six weeks or so, you will really feel the benefits

You can try some passion flower to help with the withdrawls or some KAVA

It isn't easy to give up carby foods, and even more difficult to give up smoking, especially after 20 some years. Since you are trying to do both at once, that makes it a lot more difficult for you, especially when quitting smoking can cause anger, anxiety, depression, increased appetite and hunger. But right now the most important thing for you to concentrate on is getting your bg under control. You have found that upping your meds doesn't work. You know and we all know the only way to do it is cut down on carbs.

In the recipe section of the forum is a recipe for faux mashed potatoes, and I just posted a fast, easy and good gravy recipe in case you want to try it. I substitute cooked, buttered and seasoned chopped cauliflower for rice. If you are tempted by sweets, there is a pumpkin pie recipe, a cheesecake recipe and some muffin recipes. I keep a low carb dessert in the fridge at all times to keep myself on the strait and narrow.

For hunger between meals, you could try a handful of almonds, some cheese or a couple of boiled or deviled eggs. There are lots of tricks out there that will help keep us on the right path. Be patient and before you know it, the withdrawl symptoms from the smoking will be a thing of the past and life should be easier for you then.

Thank you everyone for the Support, I am glad to have you all to speak to.. I am Day 5 smoke free.. I am feeling a bit more better today than yesterday!!

I got some this morning.. havent tried it as I dont have it running today lol...

And yeah, i heard that alot.. All my Doctors, Nurses, Diabetes Educators, Endo etc etc keep reminding me that lol..
