There are interesting claims on rxlist about this one.
1 pill in the morning(2.5 mg,5 mg,10mg) does the trick. Supposedly this one does not leave large levels of insulin floating around in your body like other sulfonylureas do- it's release mechanism is activated by food like Januvia. It costs much less than Januvia and, according to some studies, controls FBG and A1C better than Januvia. I'm going to give it a try.I'll post results. Is it too soon to ask about how you are doing on the Glipizide ER? Post back when you find stable results please, especially on your FBG's which are a pain for most Type 2's. I hope that it works for you. ![]() |

Had a tough time convincing my idiot doctor to write the prescription for Glipizide ER-he's hung up on Glyburide which works okay but leaves excess insulin in your bloodstream for a very long time.I ordered a batch of Glipizide ER from an offshore pharmacy for evaluation. Only bad thing about ordering from offshore is that it takes about 6 weeks to get the meds.I'll post results when I have results. Cheers Eddie |

Hi Eddie:
Sorry, I was gone for a bit.Gee, that must have been frustrating. Did your Dr. say why he prefers you to be on Glyburide? Are you going to be on more than 1 drug for the treatment of Diabetes? Most are. I imagine you and your Dr. already went over the side-effects, drug reactions, etc. of Glipizide. Six weeks? That's a pain. I hope once you get on it, that it will be a shorter time for delivery to you. I also hope that it works better for you. Thanks for the update and yes, keep us posted. *Terrie* |

My doctor didn't even know about Glipizide ER much less side effects. All sulfonylureas have pretty much the same unlikely side effect- cardio death.Injected Insulin is safest diabetes med by far but I'm not willing to do daily injections at this point. I also take Metformin-not sure if it does me any good. Maybe it's helped me to lose weight Avandia worked well but I dropped it because of cardiovascular concerns.I evaluated Actos and it,for me, was worthless so I dropped it.Actually my FBG and A1C are okay but I don't like the fact that Glyburide leaves insulin in my body for a long time.Other than that,Glyburide works well if you discount an occasional hypo episode.Ideally I would like to take 1500 mg of Metformin ER and 5 mg of Glipizide ER in the morning and that would be my diabetic meds for the day. Hi! 'Morning there Eddie:
![]() Oh...you have one of those "advanced" Doctors. ![]() I certainly agree about the Insulin as long as the oral meds. keep your sugars around the Good range. Glad to hear of your A1c and FBG. It's funny you know. I've been on the boards for yrs. and I remember when most were taking Actos...now most are taking Metformin and seem Happy with it(plus another drug). I'm surprised that they haven't taken the Avandia off the shelf. When I was taking Vioxx for 2 1/2 yrs., it worked Good for me. Then they discovered it caused strokes and heart attacks. They sure pulled that one quick. Thanks for your knowledge Eddie. ![]() Last edited by Terrie : 11-09-2007 at 10:20 AM. |

Avandia cardio problems are very small percentage with users though greater than with other diabetes meds.My opinion about the Avandia thing: A lot of people will shy away from Avandia because of the cost.In most cases, I would think that only people with severe diabetes would be willing to cough up the bucks for Avandia which would mean that cardio statistics on Avandia are for people with severe diabetes. It would seem to be a natural conclusion that Avandia cardio stats would be considerably worse than the less expensive diabetes meds.Even though a small study showed otherwise,I suspect that Actos has the same problems as Avandia:fluid buildup on the heart. All of this stuff is my limited perspective and may be incorrect. Bye for now Eddie |

![]() You could be right about the Actos. I just presumed that People weren't using it as much any more because it didn't work as well. Well, you'd be more knowledgeable about these medications than me since you are involved with them. See, it didn't even occur to me that Actos may cause fluid buildup on the heart. Darn drugs, eh? They help you oneway but most hurt you another way. *Terrie* |
