Question about Actos and Metformin with pre-diabetes.

Hello everyone.

In my introduction post I mentioned that I have a hard time sleeping at night. I get sweaty and achey and when I remove the blankets I become cold very quickly which makes me put the blankets on again and this starts an endless process throughout the night. My wife and kid sleep soundly saying the room temp is fine. Heck I used to sleep soundly year round before hitting my head.

Anyways. I am also still losing weight. I am eating pretty decent sized meals and snacks lately and still losing weight.

I wonder if the discomfort I feel at night is the body feeding off its own fat and or muscle. I always wake up with cold tingly hands, not just on the side I am sleeping either. Sometimes its in my feet.

I have been wanting to try metformin or actos to see if it relieves this night time aching.

I have heard though that metformin causes more weight loss and that actos athough it can cause weight gain causes bone fracture problems.

What is the opinion of those experienced here about these two meds?

I don't really want to make a daily routine of these meds but rather say one on monday, then one on wednesday, then one on saturday, just to see if it helps my sleeping problems. Maybe my body needs help absorbing at night?

Just guessing really. But I am willing to try anything since my sleeping problem is a month plus now and I am losing my mind and weight.

Thanks in advance for all thoughts. :)

Hi Casey . . . I can't speak about Actos, but metformin doesn't work that way. It is a drug that builds up in your bloodstream, and then when it reaches maximum strength levels, the daily doses serve to maintain that maximum blood level. What it does is help with insulin resistance.

Have you checked your blood sugar when you wake up at night feeling sweaty, etc? Are you sure its a blood sugar issue causing this symptom? I have never had this symptom as part of my diabetes...only when I would go low occasionally. I have it sometimes now, but its a hormonal thing.
