Is anyone using the new Bayer Contour USB meter?
I think i might have to switch and get one. CVS have them on special at $29 as compared to $70 at walmart. From what i've been reading they look pretty slick

I really wanted this meter, but I found out that it is not compatible with Windows 7 operating system. You might want to check to make sure that your operating system is compatible with the Bayer Contour USB.

More than a few false readings

I've taken 87 readings with my Bayer USB meter and the majority of them fell within the good/normal range with only a few exceptions. My last two A!Cs were 7.4 and 7.7 which contradicts the results my Bayer meter is indicating.

I just tested the same sample of blood on the Bayer and on my Accu-Check: the Bayer indicated a glucose level of 87 and the Accu-Check 129. Something is majorly wrong here.

I will conduct double tests again multiple times and also use test solution and report on my results.

I figured my PCP's A1C was incorrect but it would seem right on the money...from this perspective...right now.

My local CVS now has them for $10 (w/extra card) :D

I do tend to like the SW and the newest web download version does allow use with Win7 (64 bit) The "kit" comes with 25 test strips.
Of course my use will be somewhat limited, insurance allows only the Lifescan use, no Bayer. But will keep check on Ebay for bargains :)

My local CVS only had 2 in stock (1 after my purchase) and I did not see that same advertisement on their web site. No idea if they are going to close them out or just trying to induce test strip sales. One note - anyone purchasing should verify the expiration date on the bottom of the Contour box, mine was 2012-10.

Out of 5 tests so far, have compared 2 readings to my Lifescan meter and both were very close (1 within 2 points the other 5 points). It has been my experience test-test readings can vary 5-10 points, using the same meter. So far the Contour USB seems to be a good meter, the test strip fills 'easier' than the Lifescan type but have had those for 5+ years with my averages converting close to the A1c tests.

In the past I've had good luck using test strips purchased via Ebay and last night did 'win' an auction for some Countour strips. On occasion there can be some very good sales on-line, just have to watch for them and know what the prices 'should' be.

I started out with the Contour meter and a few weeks ago got the Contour USB meter to try; the nice thing is the strips are the same. The software is ok, but I was just telling my nurse educator that it is a bit limiting; you can't edit or notate obviously bad readings. This becomes an issue when you don't fill the strip quite enough and it does not error out like the contour meter does. I've had 2 or 3 readings now where I immediately retested and the readings were >20% different, so obviously not filling the strip and the meter not erroring on this factored in. eg. 3.7 then 5.4 retested, and 8.3 then 6.4 retested.

I'm not sure if I'll stick with the USB version or go back to my other meter. I'm using the USB recording as a bit of a backup, but my primary record is going to stay with the ontrack diabetes software on my android phone which I can easily notate and email to my nurse.

I just purchased this meter last week. I tested my BS about 5 times in a half hour period and my readings were all over the place. My first reading was 88 which is impossible i'm a diabetic. Everything from 88 to 125. No two readings were even close. I have no faith in this meter at all. I'm better off just guessing what my BS is. I'm going back to using my Accu-Chek.

What time of the day did you get the 88 with the Contour? I'm a diabetic and 90% of my fasting bg results are under 88. Late afternoon results are also below that, while other results are not much higher.

Also, any test result can have an error of up to 20% in either direction, which could account for the differences in your result. And if you didn't wash your hands thoroughly and wipe them on clean kitchen paper or other very clean material before each test, there could be some contamination from sweat or other things you've touched.

BTW, I'm a happy Accu-Chek user, so have no emotional attachment to Contour, just making some basic observations. :)
