UUMMM... Terrie, We are in the 21st century and feet can be sore if in grapes for too long. And we are going off the topic. These days we have the greatest tools that a winemaker would want and that's a hydraulic grape press and they are certainly a lot more sterile than feet.

Excuse me...I was wide awake when the 21st rolled in and no one said nothing about new fancy machinery to do the grapes. Why I just saw those People on TV jumping up and down on those grapes last month. It was horrifying I tell Ya.

Yes, you're right Peter, I did get off topic by mentioning the coat...but you jumped right on it didn't you? Then you started on the salmon. Like what's that's got to do with pumps? Anyways back to the pumps.

I wish that our health minister would give us free insulin pump. Geez, I don't want much do I. :rolleyes

No, asking for a gadget that could possibly save your health is not asking for too much. It makes me mad that they charge so much for those machines.

Hey, you may get it sooner than you think. You know this is the only logical answer to help most People if they need/want it. Actually, a Cure is needed.
The governments know that they are going to be in Big trouble if they don't do something about to help Diabetics Big Time with this battle. They had the door closed on this disease far too long.

Please miss Nicola Roxon, Can I have a free insulin pump.

Good-looking Minister that you got there Peter.

Yeah, I love gadgets and I also like the idea of getting your meal and have a quick guise on how many carbs and push a button. That would be so cool!!

Yes she is nice, But she would be quite a goddess if I were to have a pump and CGMS. Heh I can just see myself going to my favorite Chinese and just conveniently bolus without unzipping a bag with my BG meter & pen.

Well, that's a relief. Then you can fill up on your Tas salmon before you land in Canada. j/k Oh no worries. We'd feed Ya. You're wearing a coat? Oh Ya. I forgot your nearing the end of your winter. My Hubby practically melted doing some work outside today. I think he said with the humidity the temp felt like 35c. That's not bad considering last year our highest was 45c. Now that was Hot.

LOL. Yes. I suppose she would be considered a goddess then. I wonder if anyone has suggested the pumps to your Government. Australia should be able to swing it. Your population isn't large either. Between 10-15% of Australians are Type 1's. I would also presume that they wouldn't give one free to a Diabetic who has coverage through their Employer, can afford it themselves, etc. They would also probably do it like here, one Province at a time.

Umm...even with a pump, you still have to test first before you bolus. Unless you would expect your Gov. to supply the newest pump/meter combo(don't count on it). I don't think they would supply a CGMS until someone got on their case about it after they supplied the pumps. Unless for Special cases. One step at a time. The first step is a suggestion/petition asking them to supply the pump. Maybe they already have it in mind.

Yes Terrie, I realize that to test and then press a button to bolus, But if I were given a pump and has a CGMS option then I can see about getting one. It would be so cool.

Yes and the JDRF has done that already and good on them. As for me though just going to Canada is just so cool to visit little own living there.

However if I were to get a free pump I would have to do some foot slogging to convince the goverment to act appon and also to get people like me to get a pump.

Hi Chaco:

No, any Ontario resident who is a Diabetic and uses Insulin can get a pump. Just ask your Endo and he/she will get you an appointment with the Pump Educator. They will show you all the pumps/supplies that our Gov. will pay for. The supplies total equals either $2400. or $1200. a year. I forget which she said. You or your Insurance company must pay the other $600. Good deal. Most Insurance companies will no longer cover the pumps for Ontarians since the Gov. is covering them. The Gov. expected this. But the Insurance companies are Happy to pay the $600.00.

I apologize for saying "need". I should have said "want". The 4 pumps they supply are: Acu-chek Spirit, MiniMed Paradigm, Deltec Cozmo and the Animas 2020.

Edit: As of March 26, 2009, the Cozmo are no longer being made. The company will honour the warranty however. I'm not sure if our Gov. will be replacing the Cozmo with another pump choice. I saw the Pump Educator with all my questions at the end of January 2009.

There is also a long wait for the pumps(4-6 mths.). Since they are practically free, it seems like most Diabetics wants one, she said. Good Luck.

So any diabetic living in Ontario can apply for one? Not just Type 1? I really think my sister could benefit from this, but she doesn't have an endocrinologist since she has no family doctor to refer her to one and the walk in clinic said they would refer her about 3 years ago.

This is a little off-topic, but Canadians are so smart about some things. I spend several weeks in Ontario every summer: It's such a treat to be able to go to a pharmacy and get the Novolog and Levemir I need (in the cartridges, thank you!) without a prescription. We're so goofy here in the States with prescription nonsense! Thank you Ontario!
