So I was in the kitchen making breakfast today and the GF was having some of my emergency fruit loops and a glass of orange juice.
Which was killing me, mostly because I loved orange juice before and I haven't gotten to have any in almost a whole year. And probably won't get to have any again.
As for me, I made myself an omelet, with corn and white onion and some colby jack cheese. Also cut up a little beef summer sausage to put in there because I didn't have any ham sliced up at the moment and I was feeling a little adventurous anyway after I made some of Shanny's Cheese crisps last night.
So anyway, do you guys & gals have any suggestions on a replacement for orange juice I could make?
I like the Mio water flavoring, they have some sour flavors like Tangerine-Orange that are good wakeup drinks. Polypropylene Glycol, evil chemical sweeteners, and all ... it gets WATER into me, anyhow, so I drink it at work.
Never used corn in omelets even before diabetes . . . now corn is completely off my menus because it spikes me to the moon.
I like the Mio suggestion, Linda . . . will have to look for the citrusy ones, cuz I do have an occasional jones for orange juice. Mostly when I watch old episodes of A Country Practice where the local watering hole serves orange juice as their main non-alcoholic drink.
My splurge on Christmas was to have a bottle of Mango Orange Sparkling Ice. It's sweetened I think with sucralose, which I normally don't do. Our traditional drink with breakfast on Christmas morning is mimosas. Last year (my first xmas after diagnosis) I had a very small glass of just champagne. This year, I wanted to have some kind of mimosa, so the Ice was my answer. It's 0 carbs, 0 calories.
