Both my fathers parents were diabetic. My great grand mother was type 1 (one of the first people treated with insulin), my grandfather was type 1 or 2 I'm not sure, (he was over weight) My grandmother was type 2 My father was type 2 but not over weight. My sister is type 2 (over weight) My Daughter is type 1 at 18 years I had a doctors appointment yesterday and he had to give me a lolly-pop to get home. He ordered a glucose tolerance test and some other blood work. I wanted to go in today and get the blood work done but my husband seems to think it can wait till friday( he has a day off then) I told him that it is an all day test every few hours of taking blood samples. Should I go friday or tomorrow I have an appointment in two weeks to go over the tests but I am having so much trouble with my balance, getting my mind to work being dizzy and irritable that I dont think I should wait. How long does it take for the test results to come back? If I wait till friday then he can drive me. I'm not sure I should be driving. This morning at 9 I had 2 slices of 4:9 bread with peanut butter and sugar free jam yougert and Coffee, At 12 I was so hungry I had a tuna sandwich I had some oj too. Usually with the toast I am good till 2:00 I felt so tired this afternoon I had to force myself to do housework. I was falling over my feet losing my balance and dropping things. I had dinner early at 5:30. I am surprised by being hungry I had 1.5 cup cheese ravoli with red sauce, 2 bread 1.5 green beans.after waiting a half hour for the food to work I gave up and I had a small piece of chocolate cheese cake it worked for a couple of hours but my head is swimming again. I dont know what to eat while I find out what is wrong what do you suggest. I hope you can make sense of this thread, I have been making a lot of errors.

Glad to see you again, leashncollar. Did your doc happen to check your blood before he gave you that lollypop? Seems funny a possibly diabetic patient would be given candy!

Your symptoms seem to me really serious & severe, and if I were you I'd be ringing doc's phone off the hook awreddy! So I agree with you - I don't think you should wait! But I don't think you should drive either - is there anyone else who could take you sooner than Friday? If you absolutely must wait until Friday, I would suggest stop eating any sweets, breads, pasta, potatoes, rice or other starchy foods. Meats, fish, eggs, nuts, cheese, etc., are the safe foods for keeping blood sugar down.

The other thing I would suggest is get to ER as soon as possible if you start vomiting, running a fever, having abdominal cramps . . .
