Hello folks, And hello Rosebud and welcome to our forum.
I have a very nice seaside town called Rosebud as I have seen this develop from 1 milk bar, A surf shop and a hamburger shop. Now days it's a bustling shopping centre with the unfortunate fast food too.
I am walking distance to the nearest Mc Donald's and more as this is just too convenient to go & eat and that's the thing as there is too many of these places. Australia is not to far behind the Americans in their war on FFAT!!! and we love American lifestyle. These days we have to be smarter and the change in attitude to eat smarter and exercise more.
The fast food industry is so driven with money making ideas that to make food in stuff that makes it keep for longer is the major cause to obeaseity and to get people to go away from the couch and also the internet and so we are all guilty from doing this. I have had a look at how many carbs I have had and honestly I am a carb junky!!! Also at 3:1 Ratio is just asking for it. I am a dietician's nightmare.

maybe treadmill exercise doesn't fit for you. some people may need to find a suitable exercise for their body, because every person has a different type of blood pressure.

Smile Feeling tired

I changed my diet eight days ago and cut out carbs , increased my vegatable and protein intake and have been feeling great. I drink lots of water. I got my period a few days ago, and suddenly I've been feeling sluggish and tired. My carb intake is about 50-60 grams daily. Could this sluggishness be related to just my period? or the low carb intake?

What do you do in your day? I see that to low carb is OK for a person who sits in a office and stares at a computer all day. But if you were to run a marathon then you need fuel and that fuel is carbs!!

That's exactly it- I work in an office 5 hours a day on a computer- the rest of the time I spend running around car pooling, fixing dinner, bathing my kids..etc.. (my kids are 2 1/2 and 4 1/2) so as you see I dont get the exercise I should get. I know , I know I need to exercise! Its soo hard-

Well Wildachyld, I am not going to change much activity in your day but I would look at the carbs in the morning and something that would last you though your day. I wonder when is your most physical time as this is the time for rich carbs!! Carbs that will react very well and may well be the stuff that we all avoid and only those times that we need the most like the computer job that you have as I would look at a long and low carb for that time in the day. As you are about to pick up kids, Shopping, House work, And the like as I would have something that will serve you in energy I.E. CARBS!!! and back that up with enough insulin to cover it and as always have something in your bag that will fix your low fast like sweet OJ or strait lucozade. But then I guess that you know about this. and to be here is good as you get to talk to other diabetics and their experiences. What I said earlier is just what I think to do so do you understand what I am saying here??

Thanks all that have shared their experience on this matter. Alot of you say to avoid carbs but its so critical in the diet. The problem is, I find that if i don't eat carbs, my stomach grumbles in the middle of meetings, i feel low in energy and affects my mood... i feel quite negative and miserable when i don't get a healthy fulfilling meal. As soon as i go back on, I feel much happier.

I have since switch medication from the novomix 30 to the lantus and apridra and have found better control in my blood sugar and more flexibility which i'm grateful for. But at the same time, weight gain is an issue. I have since put on 2Kg on top of my already heavy weight. Even with the constant exercise on the treadmill and lunchtime walks doesn't make the slightest difference. Its very frustrating.

I understand your frustration with your weight problem. I had that same problem for several years until I found it was caused by the modern day insulins. My solution was to reduce my daily carb intake and increase my exercise. I used to eat about 180 carbs per day. I started cutting that down about 10 carbs per day and every four or 5 days I cut it down another 10 carbs. I stopped when I reached 130 carbs. I increased my exercise, walking 3 miles per day for at least 6 days per week. I lost half of the weight I had gained and I am still working on it. I know you need carbs but you can gradually reduce your carbs and eat fewer. That should enable you to stop gaining weight and eventually start losing. Good luck!

I have found I need to eat about 130-180 carbs a day. If I have only 100 carbs or less per day, after about 3 days I get ravenous and binge. I do need to lose weight, too, and I have reduced portion sizes. That has helped me a lot. As of last doctor's appointment, I had lost 29 pounds. But I kind of feel like I'm cheating as I take Byetta for my diabetes and one of the side affects of Byetta is decreased appetite. I simply cannot eat as much as I used to. I really NEED TO START EXERCISING. It is cold here so I don't go out and walk, but the few days it's been warm enough I gather up my dogs (I have 3) and go out for a walk. I feel so good when I get home.

Default Lose Weight

If you want to lose weight, first you have to cut in your calories and burn your fat. So,no need to worry being weight, just make some changes in your diet :

Carbs are very important in our diets and they come with vital nutrients that you do not find in other foods. They are needed in small to moderate quantities even if you do not exercise or have a physically demanding job. What is even better, when your muscles are worked the carbs are stored in our muscles and not as fat.

You can eat foods that are high on carbs and still lose weight, but you must use moderation. The problems is always in overdoing everything. Remember that you need carbs and you should focus on whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and beans. Pay attention to how much physical exercise you are getting and eat less carbs only when you do not workout.

In days when you exercise, eat more carbohydrates than when you are not exercising. Try to eat some carbs in the meal before you workout for some energy. Just remember not to over do them and to get them from quality sources.
