I eat only 130 grams of carbohydrates each day. I walk at a fast pace for one hour each day. That caused me to lose 26 pounds. If I reduced my carbs to 100 each day I would lose even more weight. Eating food with a low fat content also helps.

Your not losing weight, but how is your weight. Are you in proportion (height to weight)? Body fat under 20%. I have just been diagnosed and am borderline. Really need to lose weight and I have it to lose (43% body fat). I would hope I would lose a lot of weight doing what you are. I'm working on getting to 60 minutes now.

I avoid fatty food (eg. cheese, deep fried, anything with large amounts of oil).
try adding weight training to your workouts and increase the speed of your tread mill and the incline your body has adjusted to your excerise levels. change your work out keep a food journal to improve your eating habits.

Thumbs up eating disorder?

That time I hung in and kept going for 6 months. Hypos, binge eating, huge differences in blood sugars and some more weight...That's how I ended up. It really upset me. We started out with a bunch of diabetics (I was the only type 1). All of them lost weight, and quite a bit. So I do believe exercise helps. But then why didn't it help for me? I believe exercise is so not me, that it frustrates me. And frustration makes me binge.... I have been binge free for nearly a year now, and going back to exercising scares me...
I know there are different kinds of exercise. Been there, done that: horse back riding, biking, walking, swimming, working out, aerobics, step, .... None of them really got my attention.

Is it so that you can not lose weight unless you exercise

About the low-carb way of life. The other day, I asked a professor in endocrinology about low-carb eating, because I also feel better when I eat less carbs (although I CRAVE carbs, my body says no way!). She was not happy with my method. My dietitian would want me to eat 220 gr carbs a day. I need 60 units of insulin a day already!! (used to be 85 units a day, since day 1).
The problem in Belgium is, we don't have low-carb food like Dr.Atkins or Dreamfields. It's just not available. So many low-carb recipes are just not manageable.

Hope to hear more on this subject, because yes: I DO want to lose weight....
Hi Leashncollar here, I have an eating disorder and I have found Overeaters Anomyous to be a life saver. They have chapters all over the world and it follows a 12 step format. They have a web site If by chance you dont have an OA chapter in your area Alcholics Anomyous has open meetings to address other addiction issues. Food is an addiction, sugar as well can be a problem for binge eaters. If you like dogs you could get one and take it for walks twice a day, they are good listeners too. Also try keeping a food journal where you write down what you eat and how you are feeling. Best of luck

I couldn't sleep, so posting my two bobs worth here.

I wanted to lose weight late last year, as my infrequent walks weren't making a dent, and my lifestyle had become more and more sedentary over the last decade. So I asked my local health clinic for help in some community activity, to get involved with others, and maybe by social peer pressure I thought I'd lose weight quicker.

The staff at the clinic instead went ahead and gave me diabetes. And no exercise! I was very annoyed with that, and still think I'm not DT2, but agree I have Insulin resistance, and IGF.

The health clinics Diabetes Management Plan took a while to kick in, but I didn't sit on my ass waiting for them to save me.

I increased my exercise, revised the foods I ate, ...

In fact I took bag loads of high carb, high sugar foods to my sis's and bro's place. Even before I saw the CDE & dietitian.

I first started only eating raw foods, and ramped up my exercise. I was doing 45 minutes of walking a day. And when I saw the kilo's drop away day by day I was encouraged.

But after the first ten days it became harder and harder to lose the weight at the same rate. So I piled on the exercise. My walks first extended to doing 2 or 3 45 min walks, and then I looked up Google maps and found an 11 km walk which went along the beach for some of the way. I started doing that, and at first it took me 3 hrs to complete. But the kilo's kept coming off! I was still eating greens, salads, beans, soaked grains, nuts, seeds, fruits, and meat once a week.

But again I was plateauing so I added a 2 hr cycling to my exercise repertoire, and later some jogging as well. Now I include some high energy foods like eggs, fish, and other meets like tuna in my salads.

I now also try to eat 3 times a day, so I dont binge at night-time. I used to hold off on eating as much as possible, but then by night-time I'd eat a lot of watermelons and grapes, which are of course high in fructose and sugar. I still eat them but not as much. And eating brekky and lunch when I can means I can exercise more vigorously, and not feel like a zombie trying to finish off my routes. Surprisingly the weight is still coming off, even though I eat more meals and foods. And my BG's are low.

Initially I was so unfit that even the 45 minute walks put my heart rate above 120, meaning I was in the training zone, and not just losing weight, but also gaining muscle. But after some improvement in my fitness now my heart rate is in the fat loss zone (btw 100 and 120 for my age) when I am walking and cycling.

Later when I get even fitter, and lighter, jogging should be occurring for me in the fat burning zone, and not the vigorous exercise zone it is occurring for me now. When that happens I can complete my 11k walk in about 1 hr instead of the 2.5 hr's it takes me now, and burn at least the same amount of calories, hopefully lose the same amount of weight. Or keep it low.

Finally my clinic has got around to organising some exercise activity for me. But it's only 1 hr a week, for 8 weeks, and after that I'm on my own resources again.

So here's my suggestions for you. You will have to modify this to suit your circumstances. At first pile on the exercises. I realise mose people dont have 5 hrs a day to exercise. But you have to do more exercise. Try and keep it at at least your fat burning zone. When you get fitter, you can increase the vigour of your exercise, reduce the time, and still burn off weight.

You also need to drastically change your diet. Your circumstances and dietitian will advise what is right for you, but if you're overweight, you don't need more fat in your diet. And you know you need to reduce your carbs and sugars. So that leaves you with protein, and high-fibre low carbs like vegies. The digesting of these requires so much energy that the body often just breaks even, or doesn't gain much weight from them. You will still get some HDL fats from some of yo0ur fruits like avocado, banana's, and other vegies. So you will not be able to avoid them totally, but you can evade the obvious ones like butter, meat fats, pastry, breads etc.

It's not easy. And progress is painfully slow. I crave a lot of the foods I have given up too. But if you keep a record, or a diary of what you eat, your BG, your exercises, and your weight then not only will you be encouraged, but you will also learn what works best for you.

Good luck and best wishes.

And it's 5:20 am and I have to get up at 7am lol

P.s. When I earnestly started to lose weight on Jan 5'th I was over 92.5 kg's. Yesterday I weighed in at 76.6 kgs. I will be 75 kgs by Monday, and 70 kgs by end of Feb.
