Ya 300 does seem a lot but I do exercise most days and have a pretty good weight and try to keep my athletic figure I try and average it over the week...some days I have 250, other days 350...it's easy to keep track because I use 1 unit per 10 g...so 30 units of humalog a day equals 300g of carb! (Not including any extra units needed if my BS is higher)

I knew that I was not a day Person back in Grade 7. I used to do my Best work and projects around 1:00 a.m. Scientists think that we have sleep disorders and need drugs or treatment. I do most of my work at night but am still able to function during the day when needed. Like getting my Kids and Hubby up in the mornings and fed and off to their destinations. Dr.’s appointments, Baby-sitting, shopping, etc. Thank Goodness for Drs., Nurses, Cops, Firemen, Security Guards, product manufacturers, truck drivers, etc., etc. also, who are able to work at night. Hmmm…that’s interesting. I will presume that you test and take your Fast-acting Insulin when you awaken? The 12 hour Lantus schedule does work for me but even though I wake up with Good numbers normally, I must take my Humalog soon after I awaken because my sugars start rising fast after about 40 minutes. I don’t know if you are the same that way.

I think both decent blood sugars and Good blood pressure are important. In fact, I know it for me. My blood pressure is still Good normally(touch wood) but when my sugars were out of control when I was younger, I went into a 3 day coma, I got Retinopathy in my left eye and Neuropathy in my toe and sole of my left foot. Since my sugars have been Good so am I, and my test results.

Well, I’m Glad that you are having Good weather in Alberta, although a 20 degree drop between day and night is significant. In my part of Ontario(SE), nothing but , cool and dreary most of the week. It’s supposed to clear up for the week-end. We shall see.

Yes, 30% to 40% is about the Diabetes norm for Aboriginals. You have that right about prevention but People have to be taught it and practice it from a Very young age. Then it’s normal for them to do and acceptable for them to do. They may stray off of it for some time but I think that most would go back to the healthier Lifestyle. Of course, some companies still put junk like msg and others in their foods which enhances the taste.

Yes, unfortunately too many companies have no interest in their product's ingredients...I used to be an asst mgr of a grocery store and sadly the top sellers in the store were the least healthy items! Partly because they are promoted so much. Money vs health eh? At least the average person seems to be living a more healthy lifestyle these days!
