Default Fasting check

Since I have recently diagnosed I'm still in the learning phase. Discovered something this morning and was wondering if anyone had any information on this. My levels have been around 155-185 in the mornings. I was usually checking them at work around 6:30am before I would eat my breakfast. The time was about 1 1/2 hour after i get up. Today I decided to check right after I got up at 4:15am the level was 143. Went to work and checked at work about 1hour and 20 minutes later and it was before breakfast and my level was 179. Is this normal and should I be checking right after getting up and not waiting till I get to work?

Hi Again Glen:

Diabetes is a complicated but interesting disease. Even as long as I
have had it, I am still learning something new by talking to People whom
I haven't met before with different situations. No one reacts exactly
the same to Diabetes and its affects.

Yes, what you have discovered is the Dawn Phenomenon(DP). Check
out "Diabetic Symptoms"(The 8th Topic from the top). This is quite normal.

You didn't say if you were dxd. a Type 1, Type 1.5, or a Type 2. I will
presume that you are a Type 2 since you are only on Metformin. Some
Diabetics occasionally get dxd. with the wrong Type.

The majority of Diabetics wake up with a higher blood sugar level. A
minority wake up with a normal blood sugar level(like myself and perhaps
you) but it rises shortly after, without eating, drinking, etc. I usually test
my blood within 10 minutes of waking. My sugar level starts to rise within 40
minutes after testing. That is why I take my Insulin shortly after testing since I know it will be too high within an hour. I've spoken to my Dr. about this and he said it is still called Dawn Phenomenon.

it is normal for diabetes people......donn't worry, your blood glucose still high...you need more effort to control your blood glucose, more exercise and good diet...god luck
