Default Any natural products to help with diabetes?

Hi,
I am new here, have had t2 diabetes for about 10 yrs., and take meds for it. The fear of insulin injections helps keep me on the straight and narrow.

I try to eat properly, never add sugar to anything I consume, walk my dog a mile or more most nights of the week.

My doc told me as I get older it'll get harder to keep my bg level in check. I stopped in at a health store in town today and they have a few products they say will help regulate blood sugar. But they also want to sell me something. So I am a skeptic who would like to find some natural approach to this condition even if it meant I still had to take pills but could maybe take less of them.

Does such a thing exist? Are these products a load of bs? If anyone has found a natural way to deal with t2 diabetes, I'd love to hear it!

Thanks

Hello Funky:

You and everyone else would like to find the "real natural way" to balance or lower blood sugars without meds. Although I am also a skeptic, I do believe that some products out there could achieve the goal. Unfortunately, the fake products sold seem to outnumber the possible Good ones.

For Type 1's, it seems even harder to find anything that works or that works consistantly. With Type 2's many "normal foods" have been tried and supposedly resulted in decent results. I've tried some but they didn't work for me. A 4 month trial period would be a good time frame. The "natural foods" are:

Cinnamon, garlic, bitter mellon, domestic vinegar(2 tbs. mixed with/or taken along with foods, avacado, acidic fruits and the apple a day. These are just the ones that I can think of, at the moment. There are supposedly others.

The main thing is to not eat high glycemic or wrong high carb foods. Foods with the Good fats, fiber and protein are safer to eat. (Of course, next year a new study will show the opposite results.

As far as the teas, herbs, tablets, for myself, I wouldn't trust them. You never know what's really in that package unless you get it tested at a lab. The Health Depts. have tested different products and found some didn't have the proper amounts of ingredients listed, had the wrong ingredients or was lacking the main ingredient that it was being sold for. Some had ingredients that were not good for People to eat.

Hi Terrie,
Thanks for your reply. I guess I remain hopeful there is something out there that doesnt involve presc. drugs that will help. I am a huge skeptic but I believe the people who live with diabetes day in and day out are the ones to ask about anything they've found that helps. Living with it vs book smarts about it is sometimes better.

I do eat a fair bit of garlic, dont actually add cinnamon to anything but I can start! I dont always have an apple a day but I do like apples.

I dont eat high GI foods, and nothing white like bread, rice pasta.

We have other health issues in our house which leads us to have a low fat, sugar free way of living, and we are very used to it and it's fine with us. It beats the alternative if we dont take care of ourselves.

with all these 'cure adds' we see on this site you would think that some one would have found a food that helps by now.
