If you have a food processor you can easily make your own , Heavy cream and salt is really all it takes. It is delicous and you won't eat butter from the store again. I have not done it myself yet but will be doing a batch sooner than later. A friend made some and gave me what he had left when I went home from dinner at his house , Guess it was more of a trade off for some homemade sausage

I just try to make sure it's 100% butter, with nothing but salt (for the table) and coloring.

Some folks prefer unsalted, uncolored butter. Main thing is, I make sure there are no other additives.

Craig & Shalynne have both nailed it . . . if you don't want to make your own, then buy pure dairy butter, either salted or unsalted, but no other additives.

Thank you. The only thing with homemade is the color is not yellow like from the store. I guess a little food coloring would change that but not necessary. Hey you could make it whatever color you choose. Put some green butter on the table and sit back and watch everyones reaction

In making your own, aging the cream before you start will impart a better flavor - you don't want sour cream, but just let it set out for several hours before churning. Then just be sure that you rinse the churned butter several times with very cold water & then press all the liquid out of it. Keep it as cool as possible while working with it.

There are all kinds of paddles & molds to be found for making butter, but all it really takes is a wooden spoon & a bowl.
