Default Scar Tissue and Insulin Absorption

I wrote a blog today about Scar Tissue and Insulin Absorption. This has been a major issue during my 67 years with diabetes. I like to advise younger insulin dependent diabetics about the dangers of scar tissue, and how to avoid it. The blog is too long to post here. If you are interested, here in my blog site.

Great article Richard. It is even helpful for us T2's that are on a pump! I've discovered that I have certain spots that do not have great absorption, and I don't believe it is due to scar tissue. I have a specific spot on my abdomen that just doesn't absorb very well at all. And of course the occasional bent tube upon insertion. That is usually after a good 10 hours of testing with constantly high bg's that I will use a syringe and do a manual injection. If my number begins to fall after that, I know I am not getting the insulin from my pump. Unfortunately the pump does not catch a bent inner tube (only if there is a kink in the line), so the insulin is getting pumped, just not in me, but in the adhesive gauze sticky part of the set. It is very frustrating because it is a waste of infusion set and insulin. When you do not get these things for free (even with insurance, copays are high), it causes me to be upset and angry over the wasted product.

Thanks for the book though. It definitely helps others out there to have someone to relate to.

Thanks Richard. I am going to pass it around my family. We have several kids in our family that are T1's under the age of 12 (youngest just turned 3), and we also have adults on pumps. (16 diabetics in our family). I am going to email it to everyone on my list.
