There is only one time I experience this symptom. If I've been "good" on my ketogenic diet and by that I mean my liver glycogen is depleted and then mess up a little by eating too much carb, too much protein or too little fat, it happens.
What happens? My body sees extra glucose and decides to restock my liver with glycogen. Glycogen has to be stored with 16 parts water for each part glycogen, so this sucks a lot of water out of your system and makes you feel thirsty. Of course it's likely you might overshoot a little once you start drinking in response to this thirst and that explains the trips to the bathroom. Along with this, I'll see a nearly instantaneous weight gain of 3 - 5 pounds as that water is retained with the glycogen.
OK, when I get back on track and correct my dietary mistakes, the glycogen again depletes. This is a little slower but is still pretty fast. During this time, I feel much less need to drink water, urinate more in spite of that and LOSE those same 3 - 5 pounds in a short time frame.
Other than that and when I'm solidly "on plan" I'd say no. if anything I drink less water on LC/HF-Ketogenic than I did before. Naturally, it varies widely depending on season, activity, etc. When existing mostly in air-conditioned homes and offices and mostly sedentary, I'd say it's probably around 1.5 - 2 liters per day of just water, not counting teas and coffees.
My numbers have been quite good. Rarely higher than 110, only in the morning. I think my blood pressure med holds water maybe and it takes a while for me to eliminate some bloat. Plus I drink close to a gallon and a half a day.
Many blood pressure meds contain a diuretic, so that would be my guess about yours, rather than it causing fluid-retention. Early treatment for hypertension in often just low-dose diuretics alone.
I take HCTZ to prevent kidney stones, and I've taken it at night for years, just because diuretics work better when we're lying down - they don't have to overcome gravity. But I try to keep my fluid consumption to the earlier hours of the day, and since I've been on this regimen for years, I don't need a potty break during the night. I get really grouchy when my bladder wakes me up in the night!
I drink 4-5 25 fl. oz mugs a day.Depending on the Tennessee heat maybe more. I start slowing my intake down around 8 pm or 9 pm if possible so I do not have to get up during the night. I rarely do.
I find that if I restrict my fluid intake after 8 pm, I can get by with getting up once a night to pee. Before I started taking Metformin at the end of July, it was 3 or 4 times a night...
Unfortunately, right now we are having some hot weather (hot for here, anyway), highs around 30°C (86°F), and I don't do hot weather very well, so my fluid intake is higher, which means two trips a night the last few nights. We will be back to seasonal temperatures (20°C / 68°F) by the weekend.
