Hi I know I am suppose to introduce myself first but I had just a quick question and then I will. Mr Dr did hba1c in lab and it was 5.8 and I did one same day at home and it was 5.3. I know it's not a real big difference but to me it its so how do I know which one is accurate?
I jumped the gun there because i have another question. Does anyone know the cutoff to have this test done like if I take it at 8 tomorrow morning will that include what I ate tonight or what I ate for breakfast?
Molly? There is no point in taking this test one day later, because the A1c test covers everything for the last 90 to 120 days . . . however long your red blood cells live, and this varies from person to person. It shows the amount of glucose which has attached itself to those red blood cells during their lifetime, which - as stated above - can be anywhere from 90 to 120 days. The usual time frame for A1c is every three months.

Both are, probably. Time will tell. If you do this for the next several A1C tests this should show whether the home test is always about .5 pts lower than the lab, or if this one was a fluke.
Look forward to seeing your thread in the introduction section.
Also, some people will report that a certain at-home test matches the lab perfectly, and others will report a different one, but that makes sense because not all labs will show the exact same results.
I consider the doctor's lab the "true" one and will test my at-home test the same day, just to see how it compares.
I had my a1c done just today and was very pleased to see it had not changed one but in two months ago is still at 5.8. I am very surprised because I've had some readings as high as 181 that I know of. I was trying to figure out if the high readings of a few days ago would be included in today's test because I wanted total accuracy of any cheats. I did not do at home test with this this time and last one I did at home was Bayer brand.
My DR.told me if I lose to start with ten pounds that I won't have to "worry as much". I am diagnosed pre diabetic and for the most part dropped a lot of carbs like snack foods but I still have soup and crackers, grilled cheese, cheese tortilla, etc and I try to counter act then with several fats at that meal. Most of my readings are under 140 which I know is the number to stay under but yes I do go above now and then and some weeks more than others but I try to under compensate with carbs to balance out when I am naughty. I am currently not on any diabetic medication but take blood pressure and thyroid medications. I've recently only started doing 20 of exercise that I can tolerate and working up to 30 minutes. I'm 56, 5"2 and my name is Molly but it was taken as all other mollysi came up with and my baby was playing a toy and she was saying"moo" so that is how I came up with Molly moo but not my first choice but it took it so I jumped on it and here I am.
