Technical question about glucose level and energy

Hi Everyone.

Last night I was talking to a friend who warned me that my low carb intake will result in low energy. Which is true for me. I eat 50 or less carbs a day. But, I do it because it works. I slowly but consistently lose weight, and it makes my A1C rock!

So here is my question. For lunch I had a sandwich. Low carb bread (total 15 carb), a slice of tomato and 1/3 avocado. My GL before was 101 and after one hour; 137. So, even though it's not good to have such a small amount of carbs raise the GL, isn't that still energy to the body? The problem is that the body is not taking up the blood glucose and utilizing it into energy. So is that why it's important to walk after a meal? Do most of you take a walk after a meal?

Hugs,

Paula

I don't have as much trouble with lunch and or dinner as I do with breakfast. I walk 1.5 - 2.o miles just about every morning, right after I eat breakfast. I then check my BG at 1hr PP if I am not where I think I should be I do 100 steps on my stairstepper. I then again t 2 hrs. Most of the time I stay just under 100 till lunch, start to fall after that till dinner.

You hit the nail on the head though. Its one thing to have that glucose/insulin mix in your blood, its another thing to try and get your body to utilize it properly.

That is the truth. I found that working out my BS raised. Thought it was weird so I started checking more. Every time I worked out it went up. Posting that here in another thread I found that taking some Whey Protein before and after my work out I actually lowered my BS after the work out.

I have come to the conclusion for myself that anything above 100 at 2hrs PP after breakfast is due to cortisol and other morning hormones. Mornings are particularly stubborn for me at times. I can be at 140 at 1.5hrs PP, due 100 steps on my little stairstepper here in the office and drop my BG by 30-35pts. My theory is that my body is trying to supply me with extra glucose for the morning fight or flight, which would only be energy for short duration bursts. Once I perform the short duration burst it goes away.
