Anxiety can be a symptom of diabetes, but once the bg goes down and is kept down in the proper range, the anxiety should disappear. And if you have diabetes, and are anxious or depressed about something, or if you are ill, or in pain, or taking certain medicines and other things can raise your bg. So yes, anxiety and diabetes do affect each other.

I have anxiety and panic disorder, as well as the beginnings of agoraphobia. I never had these symptoms until I got my BG under control.
I believe the big D and anxiety are related. I do better when my numbers are stable, but when I have a spike I usually have a panic attack. (Like if I climb past 250)
I can tell because my heart starts pounding, and it spirals out if control.
I was put on paxil last year, but am happy to say I am drug-free now.
Now, if I could just get rid of the stupid spare tire!

There are many studies on diabetes and depression...all I can say is through my own experience and I don't believe diabetes caused my depression...I do know however that when my BG is too high I cannot think clearly and therefore become easily confused and cannot problem solve...these all impact on stress and makes the depression/anxiety worse...and so it cycles on until I get my BG back under control...

I had more anxiety and panic disorder in years (like 20) before diagnosis with hypothyroid -- and had some panic attacks in the months prior to D diagnosis as well.

I have been experimenting with GABA supplement, quite recently. It is supposed to help with that, and with beta cell function as well. You might want to look into it.

Gamma Amino Butyric Acid. It is a non-essential amino acid, ie the body makes it. Part of the synthesis pathway is the enzyme, GAD-65 ... the autoantibody to which is present in LADA and Type 1 Diabetes. In other words one would expect less GABA production in someone with Type 1 or Type 1.5.

GABA was recently found to have protective effects on pancreatic beta cells.

It is also a suppressive neurotransmitter ... and also affects growth hormone release .... among other functions. It's a big deal molecule!

I will have to check into that!! I don't know that my feeling ill is from anxiety or the anxiety is from feeling ill. My bs was high when I first started feeling this way but now that they are under control I still feel this way!! I am so tired of feeling like this!! UGH!! Wish something would give. They tried me on every SSRI SNRI and TRYC possible and all of them made things worse. They have brought my insulin down and I just got tested for GAD antibody, c-peptide, Tsh, cortisol, CBC and a couple others I forgot. Will get result next week but living in H#$@ till then. :(
