Getting pump soon!

I am getting a pump soon, paper work is underway. I am just looking for information on how you all are dealing with your pumps. What I need to know about pumping etc. Is there a concern that the buttons will get pushed and deliver unwanted insulin. I am getting the Animas One Touch Ping.
I would appreciate any information you all could provide. -Maggie

It takes multiple presses to deliver insulin, so that it can't happen accidentally.

Congratulations on soon getting your pump. You will be 1 of the newer fewer "pioneers" using the Ping. I'm not a pumper so I can't be of assistance to you but I wish you much Good Luck with your new "Buddy".

Thank you for the warm welcome. And yes when I get my pump i will be a Ping Pumper. I am looking forward to getting it.

I manage my diabetes now by taking Actos, 3-7 shots of Novolog and 1 shot of Lantus. I was on Symlin but stopped it a month ago. So getting the pump will be very much a welcomed change.

Ha! That makes me smile...a Ping Pumper.

Cute name. As you know most People name their pumps, so that will be another job for you once you get a feel for your Ping. You're in Montana. Lucky you's in the states get the new ones quite some time before us. That of course is since most of the pump companies are there.

If I was to get a pump(still bucking that idea since shots don't bother me) then I would choose the Omni(that choice was before the Ping came out however). We can't purchase either here yet until our Gov. approves them.

Compare the Animas 2020 Insulin Pump to the MiniMed Paradigm Pump

I like the idea of a more readable, colour screen. Omni seems to have problems with the sensors yet....or it may be the People using them incorrectly. I'm not sure.

I shouldn't say that I don't know anything about pumping because I do know some stuff. Most people aren't knowledgeable about using the Ping yet including me. I'd appreciate it if you'd show us the ropes of the Ping or at least let us know how it's going for you occasionally. I do hope that you become a Happy Ping Pumper. Good Luck.

I knew some People on Symlin. They thought it was Great. I guess its different for everyone. I suspect Symlin can stop working for People also or not work as well as it used to.

As I have said before, I am still wating on the insurance company to pay for it, but I do think that it should be in a week or two that I hear something. It has already been a week and the lady at Animas said that the process takes from 2-3 weeks. When I get it I will tell you all the ropes of the Ping.

I did a lot of research and found the Ping to be what I need. Before I found the Ping I was going to go with the Paradigm. Which I think they are close, I like the easy to read color screen, as well, and the waterproofness up to 12 feet for 24 hours. I believe that is what it said. I also like the 0.025 lowest basal rate increment.

I am really going to like not having to inject insulin so much throughout the day. So we'll see.

I am getting the pump and it will be here on the 4th. I got the news today and can't wait. I will tell you all about the Ping and what it's like to be a Ping Pumper. I have to wait until Nov. 19th to get it hooked up. That will give me time to read up on it and get to know the pump.

There might be a small delay, all pings have been recalled. They were underbolusing. It is said to be an easy fix that won't take long to handle.

Thanks for the heads up.

I contacted my pump rep the same day I had pre-pump training because my diabetes educator said the same thing, about the delay, and my rep told me that the problem would not effect me. He said the problem was from a week ago and said I would get my Ping Pump as scheduled.

The pre-pump training was great. I actually got to play with the pump as if it were my own and got aquainted with it. I am going to love having the pump because of how free it will allow me to be. I love the reminders and the alarms when something is wrong. I also like the fact that it is waterproof up to 12ft. for 24 hours. There is so much I like, can't name them all. Still learning all the bells and whistles.
