Hello! I was diagnosed with Type 1 in 1945 and have been very lucky since I have only a few minor complications. I have used very tight control and started pumping in June. Things are going well but I still have some highs and lows only not nearly as many as when I was injecting my insulin. Even though I am Type 1 exercise is a very important part of my control. I have insulin resistance and therefore I am a Type 1 with symptoms of Type 2, I am a "double diabetic". I have been using Avandia for 8 years for my insulin resistance. With Avandia and my pump I have very good control. I hope I can help in some way here. Please feel free to ask me any questions you want.

Welcome Richard!!
![]() I'm Glad that you've joined us. Thank you for the informative posts. You sure have travelled a long way with Diabetes. Good to see that you are in pretty Good shape considering. You must have looked after yourself much of the time anyways. Way to go! You know as is usual, I sometimes forget what I've made for supper the evening before but I've always been able to remember names, phone numbers, addresses and birthdays for some reason with little or no effort. Thus I do remember your name from another site and when you were diagnosed. I do have 2 questions: 1. What type of pump do you own? 2. Are you a hockey fan? Thanks! ![]() Last edited by Terrie : 12-09-2007 at 08:48 AM. |

Thanks for the welcome! I have made several posts and there were no replies. I like a back and forth kind of communication. I didn't think that wass going to happen here, so thanks. I thought there was an actual chat room here like on other sites but it is apparently just a forum. I like one-on- one discussions in a chat room.
I am using a MM 522 pump. I started in June, after 61 years of injections. Why did I wait so long to start? I had good control with A1c's less than 6.0 on injections but with pumping I am seeing fewer highs and lows. I rarely have a hypo now. The highs and lows I had before pumping sort of averaged out to a good A1c but those highs and lows are not healthy even if the A1c is low.I enjoy professional tennis and local college basketball. I don't watch any other sports. I never cared for hockey. I might as well watch a boxing match. I don't like boxing either. I have several friends who do enjoy hockey. Are you diabetic Terrie? If so, do you pump and how is your control? You said you welcomed me on another site. Do you remember which one? That is enough questions. Sorry! ![]() Richard |

Hi Richard, YW!
![]() Yup. I know what you mean. I'm also used to back and forth chat which is Good and comes with the bigger sites. I came across this site by accident actually. The big sites are Fine and I enjoy them but I also found this site refreshing since it's new and smaller. Both have their pros and cons. Don't forget, the Big ones started from small also. Everything takes work and time. Unfortunately, I can't answer all the questions since I don't know everything about Diabetes. But I give it my best shot. Occasionally, someone will pop in to help out. And of course, I remember which site I Welcomed you on. ![]() Questions are always Welcomed. Knowledge is Power....as you know. Good to hear that you are doing Well on your pump. I hope that you haven't had any problems with it. My Husband asked if I wanted one last spring since a Friend of his at work got one free. I said, "No" since I'm doing Fine as I am. All my tests have come back Good also which is always a relief. My Endo told me he doesn't want to see me 'til next year(unless I need him). The Omni actually interests me but I know my Husband's employer wouldn't cover that one yet since it's newer plus it's not available here yet. I'm in no hurry. Yes Richard. I've had Type 1(dxd. @ age 3) for 46 yrs. as of this month. I have a ways to catch up to you. You're amazing. Good seeing you. If there is anything you can add here or you want to chat about anything, feel free. p.s. Marti made her own site(not Diabetes related, and invited me to it). I am interested in what you think is the future of Diabetes from what you have observed. Last edited by Terrie : 12-08-2007 at 08:53 AM. |
