Default High blood sugar levels after gallbladder removed

I have kept my levels around 115 to 120 for a long time... I had my gall bladder removed a month ago.... The last week my level has shot up to 175 and has not come down. Very anxious now. Still excercise and watch what I eat... Looking for some advice...

Kirk

What more can you tell us, Kirk? Are you diabetic, and if so, what are your management methods? What foods are you eating and what meds do you use? All very pertinent to why your blood sugar would skyrocket.

Welcome to DF. I think after surgery, there is inflammation that might be the culprit here. Also are you on any pain meds or antibiotics. Lots of things cause higher bgs. Also you may need to lower your carbs for awhile until bgs come down.

Welcome, Kirk! I'd sure be suspicious and ask your doctor. It could be an infection and I understand that a stressor can sure cause higher BG. Good luck and I do hope you stick around to answer the questions Shanny asked and tell us more about the outcome.

You may want to cut back a tad on the carbs. I would starve on that amount of food and I weight 240lbs. Try letting a tablespoon of coconut oil melt in your mouth, it will go directly into your blood stream and provide with some calories. My guess is your body is trying to heal, the way it does that is by providing aa much glucose it has to offer from your liver. If you eat adequately you may be able to lessen your livers contribution.

Agree with jwags & MCS . . . at least for the time being until you get your bg levels down where they belong, cut back on the carbs, but be sure you eat enough to so you aren't going hungry. Just eat the sandwich filling or wrap it all up in a big leaf of romaine (now you've got me jonesing for pork roast! ) just so you don't make it with bread. Same for the wheat thins . . .

Depending on what your metformin dosage is, you might ask your doc about increasing it. How much is your dosage? That might be all it takes to bring your levels back in line. The maximum allowed is 2550mg per day, so you prob'ly have some wiggle room.
