Default Intro

Hi all. Just diagnosed about 3 hours ago. My head is spinning with fears, concerns, etc.
Supposed to pick up a scrip for Metformin and start that.

Just don't know what's ahead...

Welcome Chalupa_Batman

first.... breath. it doesnt have to be as bad as you might think. It depends on so many things and for the most part , YOU HAVE SOME CONTROL over this if you choose to.

You are showing you are type 2. To me out of the 2 types of diabetes, this is the one that can better be managed if you make some changes.

I HIGHLY recommend this video as a starting point

Here are some good starting points to read

Blood Sugar 101 - VERY informative and accurate
Eat-to-your-meter testing method a tried and true testing method
https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb lists foods for LCHF

If you can, please share some things with us to help us understand your situation

blood glucose number ?
A1C ?
What you typically eat in a normal day for each meal
do you have a meter

this will help drive the advice and guidance for you

Welcome to the place where you will see that this is not as bad as you might think it is and you can potentially control this depending on the circumstances above.

Welcome my friend

Welcome aboard,

By joining this website you have just surrounded yourself with a very large group of people who have traveled down the road you are now on! We have many here who have been diabetics for many years and can share tons of experience and knowledge about living with this disease.

The first step is you have to get the fundamental knowledge about diabetes. Above hftmrock has provided to you a video and websites that are basic to learning about diabetes. Take time to go through these and get that basic knowledge that most of us already have. In that way when we share experiences it will be less confusing as we all will be working for the same home base of knowledge.

You need to understand that diabetes can kill you.....that's the bad news! The good news is that you can get control of this disease and that is exactly what this website is all about....most of us have control of this disease!

So first step is learn and gain the knowledge! One comment, metformin is one of the tried and true tested drugs that has minimal serious side affects, unlike many of the newer drugs. Usually, when you first start taking it you may experience some upset stomach, gas, even some cramping in your gut! But, usually, this will pass in a short time. If it does not or is very severe, your doctor can prescribe a slower acting metformin, some seem to tolerate this better than others.

So do the reading and get back to us.....we can lead you to a happy place where you will have no fear of this disease, you can control it!

Good Luck
