Default Numbness and Tingling

Hey all.

So twice in two days now I have gotten numbness and tingling in my mouth, lips, and throat. Both times it has happened within 3-5 minutes of eating. The first time it was onion rings, the second time it was an orange. Both times my glucose was lower, 55 and 62.

At first I thought it was a food allergy, because it has happened occasionally every few months, but it would only last a minute or so.

Any thoughts to whether this is a reaction to a low, or should I be worried about neuropathy?

I don't get the numbness and tingling in my feet, but I do sometimes get it in my hands and fingers, usually during the night or when I'm on the computer or playing video games for an extended period of time.

I'm not even sure if this is diabetes related. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'd be concerned about food allergy and avoid the foods you ate. I have that reaction to a number of things like whey powder.

Numbness and tingling in the mouth, especially tongue has been associated with lows. Have a look at your insulin dosage. Could be that some corrections are due.

Both the onion rings and the orange would normally spike me. Were you low before or after you ate them? If you were low before eating, you may be reacting to a sudden rise. If you became low after eating:

-- How long afterward did you test?
-- What else was going on at the time? Physical exertion, illness or other stressors?

In any case, you might want to talk to a doc about that. May be an oral or other issue, and not diabetes-related at all.

I was low before I ate them, so I was thinking it could be a reaction to the sudden rising of the glucose.

I thought food allergy, but I've been eating oranges daily for about two weeks now and have had them before that. Same with the onion rings, not a daily thing I eat, but I have never had that happen before with them.

I'm scheduled to see my doctor in a few weeks, I'll bring it up to him then. Haven't had any more issues with it since the last time.

Thanks guys!

Also a vitamin D deficiency was causing that for me. Not saying that is your issue, but could be several things or just one. But I would have the tingling around my mouth and under my nose, go figure. I also have it occassionally when I have my neck issues. But again follow up with your dr. can be several different things.
