Thanks Freya. I'll inform my wife and we'll make a decision soon.

Kidney stone is the first thing that came to my mind . . . as Steve says, when they're moving, it's agony.

Ok, the nausea has diminished and the back pain is slightly less so I think this is just an episode related to my poor circulation. I can never sleep on my back because it causes me to feel nauseous and results in back pain as well. Tonight was likely just an intensified version of that. I'm going to try getting some sleep and will call the hospital in the morning. I'm in between docs at the moment and won't have my new doc until March. Until then, I am forced to rely on emergency services if needed. At no point during this episode did I feel like this was another heart attack but after having one, the idea of another always sticks in your mind. Thanks to everyone who helped me through this rotten night!

With your history I would err on the side of seeing a MD ASAP/ER. If you are experiencing flank/back pain it could be a kidney stone but why chance it? So many things can be happening here. I have had kidney stones and always had lower flank pain, sometimes nausea and vomiting. But with a history of heart attack, and I dont mean this to scare you but sometimes if you have a second one it will not present like the first. It is good you took the nitro. But please get checked out ASAP!!

Anything to do with the lower back the usual suspects are the kidneys. It does sound like a stone. But you do need a thorough check up to rule out other things. Keep us posted.

Sounds like a rotten night, CD!

I'm prayerful as well that you'll get that checked out. At this point the anxiety is likely a problem as well. Better to know and get it off your mind.

Hi again everyone and since Im writing this, obviously I'm still kicking. I did try going back to sleep and that was successful after another half hour of restlessness. I will get checked out for stones and anything else that may have been the culprit. I'm still however leaning towards my ever-present back pain and nausea whenever I try to sleep on my back (which I have always perceived as a circulation problem). Occasionally, that does get a bit powerful (albeit never like last night).

Again, thanks to everyone for the comments and the support and it once more shows that all the comments made in Linda's (Foxl's) thread are so true!
