Back pain keeping me awake...
As many of you know, I had a heart attack almost 3 years ago (end of March). Tonight I'm feeling a similar type of pain albeit lower down my back than when I had the heart attack. The night started off fine with me reading a bit of my book before turning in. About an hour in, I wake up (Im an extremely light sleeper!) with a bit of abdominal pain which led to a cold sweat washing over me and then a sense of nausea. Now, the back pain has also become prevalent and I've been up and quietly pacing the bedroom hoping it will go away. I don't think its another heart attack but can't be sure. During my heart attack three years ago, I was severely short of breath which is not the case tonight. So this has all gotten me concerned but I may just be overreacting.

I checked my BG level and Im sitting at 5.4. My heart rate is 105. I often will begin to feel nauseous if I lie on my back for any length of time but I believe that is due to poor circulation and also likely unrelated.

Dude, you know what everyone is going to say don't you - get it checked out asap! It may be nothing but are you willing to take the risk?

Ya, I know. Its 4:30 am here and I hate getting everyone up for this so Im a bit hesitant and hoping its nothing.

Do you have a phone service like we do in Australia where you can ring and describe your symptoms and they will tell you whether you require immediate medical attention?

canadiandude 01-19-2014 03:34

Nope nothing like that here.

Freya 01-19-2014 03:35

Ok I'm gonna ring here and describe your symptoms and history. Back soon.

Have you ever had problems with kidney issues, or anything? If it doesn't stop, I would seriously seek medical attention. Like Freya said, it's just not worth it. I will bet that the folks in your home wouldn't mind a bit if you woke them for something like this.

Having had about a dozen kidney stones over my lifetime, the pain you describe may be a kidney stone moving in your system. The pain will completely go away when the stone stops moving and be most intense when trying to pass into the bladder, which would be lower back. I hope it's not a stone but if the pain increases, you'll need to get to the hospital. If the pain suddenly goes away, you may have passed it into the bladder.

I pray you find out soon what the issue is behind the pain. Keep us informed on your condition!

Dude the advice from here is that given your history you should seek medical attention without delay.

I took a shot of Nitro just in case it was a second heart attack but I really don't believe it was. Sure the back pain is somewhat similar but its not in the same location and secondly, Im not at all out of breath like I was during my heart attack. My kidneys have always been healthy according to my doc but Steve's idea of a kidney stone has crossed my mind. I've never had one so have to reference to go by in regard to the type and amount of pain. I've woken my wife and we are standing on alert for the time being.
