Default Treatment For Lows

Had 2 mornings that I tested in the 40's while being in the hospital. Each day the patient tech would start with about 12 oz. of orange juice and each day that only raised my blood sugar by 5 points. I would then get a second glass of orange juice which would raise my blood sugar by 5 more points. I would then get some dextrose through my IV and that would raise my blood sugar up to the 130's. I am just wondering why OJ doesn't work for me? This is why I don't use it at home for lows, but I was trying to keep my mouth shut this time at the hospital, they don't usually listen to you when it comes to treating diabetes.
