Default Stomach Problems Using Novolog

I have been having gastro problems since I have been on Novolog. Stomach pains, nausea, being sluggish. I know it is the Novolog, for I had the same problem with Lantus. After having tests ran on my gall bladder, liver, kidney and pancreas and a couple of other things, all my results came back fine. My dr at that time, took me off Lantus and within 2 days I felt better, in 3 weeks felt great. I am having the same symptoms with Novolog and my insurance co. refuses to let me go back on Humalog. Has anyone had the same problem with Novolog.

Can't say that I have. I've used all three that you mention and am now using Humalog only in my pump.

It seems odd that your insurance won't pay for Humalog as it's substantially less expensive than Novolog. I do actually like Humalog better.

Have you seen a gastroenterologist?

My understanding is that if you can get your doctor on board with you that he can make them allow it. Have you tried that?

Good luck!

I saw a gasto dr. when I had the problem with the Lantus. He ran all kinds of test and could find nothing wrong. I am having the same symptoms with the Novolog as I did the Lantus. I also have a pump and was using Humalog up until April, when my insurance co. told me I had to start using Novolg.

Thank you! My endocrinologist sent a pre-cert to the insurance company and they denied it. The insurance company stated there is no proof that Novolog has effected any patients. So that is why I posted my situation, so that I can prove that there are other patients besides my self. I have come across a list on the internet stating that Novolog can cause gastro problems, but it is very rare.

I wonder if Lantus and Novolog share an ingredient in their formulations? You may want to consult with a licensed pharmacist. Seems to me that would be the specialist most likely to be informed of all side effects.

Thank you so much! I did think that they may share an ingredient, however, I never thought about asking a pharmacist! Thanks again!

Thanks for your reply! My dr. sent in a pre-cert to my insurance requesting that I be put back on Humalog. The insurance denied it. I will have to appeal.

That stinks. Can the pharmacist help with the appeal?

No, only a doctor! I can appeal myself, which I sent in today. Thanks everyone for all your replies and suggestions!
