Hello there...I'm a recently diagnosed Type 2 and currently take Lantus (20 units at night) and 2 units of Humalog before meals...with no oral meds. I was on Metformin (1000mg/2x day) for about 4 days after being hospitalized with dehydration and BG>600 when first Dx'd in Sept 2012. After a few days my Fasting numbers were much improved and my Endo took me off the Metformin and kept me only on the insulin. It is working well for me right now as I work to get my A1C down and adjust my diet etc. My goal with my Doc is that by my Jan follow-up I will be either down to 1 shot (Lantus) or completely off insulin and taking one oral med once daily. Not sure if that helps...but hopefully it does a little

~~ Hi doeadeer ~~

If you don't already have it, I would suggest you get Dr. Richard K. Bernstein's book "Diabetes Solution", revised Nov 2011 and I believe it was $14.73 from Amazon. He discusses gastroparesis several times in the book, and some of the special issues related to that. He has many suggestions, including some special dietary changes specific for that issue.

If you are not already familiar with him, Dr. Bernstein is a type 1 that was diagnosed in the 1940's, and discovered on his own that a low carb diet was best for controlling his blood sugar. He was trained as an engineer and at age 45 went to medical school so that he could get the MD needed to get his books published. He still treats diabetics today and is very healthy in his 70's. You can read portions of his book here: Read It Online!

Good luck to you!!
Gretchen
