Default Palpitations?

Hi all,

I have been having this weird thing for a month now, which seems like palpitations except they are not really palpitations. Sometimes I feel my heart pounding and lately I have noticed an increase in my heart rate. Previously whenever I would check it while at rest, my blood pressure would vary between 100/60 to 110/75 and my pulse would be 64-76.

Lately whenever I check it would be in the 80+. I would like to add that along with T2 I have chronic GERD. I have noticed that sometimes when I get acid reflux, it would be accompanied by palpitations, my heart rate would go up to 90 - 100 and that's really scary. Its been a month since I noticed the increase in my resting heart rate and also it all started with a bad episode of acid reflux, its been a month now and my GERD is still at its worse.

So i was wondering if this might be my gerd? or could there be anything else?

Here I would like to add that I gained a few pounds these last 2-4 months, I fell off the LCHF wagon but am trying hard to get back in.

I was so worried I went to see my doctor and we did an EKG and an echocardiogram, both came out perfectly fine. My blood reports show that my last HBA1C is 6.0 and my cholesterol levels were 0.5 above target, again doctor said it was nothing to be scared off, as soon as I start back on my LCHF it would get back to normal.

Also I have stopped my caffeine consumption

I would agree that lately am pretty stressed out. It's definitely not easy being 27 and diabetic!

Anybody could give me any insight? I am feeling totally lost and I have no idea if I should assign this to my horrible GERD, Stress or something else?

Years ago when I was suffering from gastritis (I expect it's the same thing as GERD but back then it was called gastritis) - I was sure I was having a heart attack. I went to the ER. No, it wasn't a heart attack I was told.

I hope it was reassuring to you when the doctor said it wasn't anything to worry about regarding your heart. From experience I know that it takes time for the stomach to heal from the damage of GERD. Going back to LCHF should have a beneficial effect on that.

An A1C of 6.0 is very good considering you said you've been straying from LCHF and it shouldn't take long for you go drop into the 5% range.

I agree that being a diabetic at your age is not easy to adjust to with the dietary restrictions that implies. It is a fact that stress, anxiety and fear can affect your diabetes and other health issues. So I would suggest that you accept your doctor's suggestion and opinion that getting back to LCHF will take care of the GERD. This won't happen overnight, so allow some time for healing to take place - several weeks or a month or two. (I know when I had the stomach pain in the past it would take at least three weeks for the pain to stop.)

In the meantime, you might want to look into taking Gaviscon. It's an antacid but also has an ingredient that causes a foaming to take place in the stomach, providing a protective barrier between the stomach and the esophagus. It has been a great help to me.

I will definitely get back to LCHF, I hate eating carbs... I do take gaviscon, it is an amazing antacid! The best that i've tried! I really feel like sometimes being sick can take a toll on us and make us feel sad or even depressed. There are those kind of days.. I guess I will have to wait until my acid reflux settles down a bit to feel better! Thank you

I meant to mention earlier how great it is for you to have a doctor that not only knows about LCHF but recommends it, and knows that it will help immensely with GERD. This one's a keeper for sure.
