Default Cranial mononeuropathy VI

I hate learning new medical terms, especially when they're about me....

I had a massive high BG episode last week, likely due to ineffective insulin. When your meter just says 'HI', it's not greeting you.

After coming down, the next morning I awoke with double vision. For the next few days, it came and went, but was mostly there.

Not having any other symptoms of a stroke, I wasn't terribly worried, but decided a visit to the doctor was wise. He did the normal range of tests for a stroke and also agreed that it was unlikely that was what occurred.

Then, he had me follow his finger with my eyes. He pronounced it appeared I had 'Sixth Nerve Palsy'. I was like....what? He did his best to explain that nerve damage has occurred, due to blood vessel damage. The nerve controls the muscle that moves the eye to the outside, in my case, when my right eye tries to look to the right.

He sent me to the ER, I had a CT scan, which confirmed that it wasn't a stroke. They wanted to keep me overnight for 'observation' and schedule an MRI in the morning, but I declined.

Emailed my endocrinologist last night, who promptly called me (I love this guy). He agreed that an MRI was likely not necessary, and wants me to see a particular ophthalmologist in the area.

Last summer, I was doing SO WELL in controlling my BGs. My downfall began after Halloween, through which I emerged unscathed, only to be done in by some Krispy Kremes, which started my road back to sugar addiction. Four months of wild BG fluctuations later, and here I am dealing with vision issues, and hoping that it will eventually resolve.

I implore you - take better care of yourself than I do. Treat addiction to sugar as EXACTLY that!! An ADDICTION!

I really just want to cry....

I am so sorry that you have to deal with this new challenge.

It took me far too long to learn that after just one "cheat" it could take me months to find my way back. I now live a strict KETO lifestyle and do not waver.
