HbA1c got lower
6.6 -> 5.5

Lipid numbers got higher
12/27 2/13 5/22
total 128 204 251
LDL 43 136 143
HDL 46 53 62
Tri 193 77 229

Quit lipitor and added more fats including meats (was pescitarian)
by 1/1/12

My triglycerides have averaged under 100 since having records in 2003. Me thinks coconut oil usage has influenced this number. The 5/22/12 test were not overnight fastings - 6 hours max since breakfast. Any concerns after almost 6 months of more saturated fats before the GP calls with his?

That is just fantastic and the medical field says it will not work.

Mine did the same loop-de-loop last time, Mark . . . mostly down, but the trigs came up with a vengeance. I'm going to hang in there with it - because everything else looks so good, and my doc was very happy.

And CONGRATULATIONS on the A1c!

Congrats on the lower HbA1c and the increase in HDL. Those are very good markers for good health. Many people find that it takes as much as a year for their cholesterol numbers to come down. Your liver is purging itself of the bad stuff and it is present in your blood until your weight stabalizes. Plus the statin kept your numbers artificially low which in my opinion was way too low. Your body actually needs cholesterol to function, especially your brain.

I'll just ignore all the tests I don't know the meaning of and go on your HbA1c

The ones I don't know are the scary ones. But I like the way you think.

I got my numbers back last week, and results were similar, although not as a big of jump in lipids. I attribute the more modest increase to not dropping the statin (too chicken). Total went up 30 points and LDL and Trig up 20 points. HDL went up 7 points to an all time high of 45. My wife has always had cholesterol levels at or near 200 all her life with no issues, and it appears there is less concern now. I think a low A1c is by far the most important number, because I believe there is linkage in A1c and vascular disease, and no or little linkage with cholesterol. Keep it up - I bet the lipids start declining with time - not that it matters much.

Congrats! I wouldn't worry about the fats until you've been on the diet for a few years, to let your body purge itself of the bad stuff.

I knew it was coming. Got a call from my GPs nurse. She said he said I need to quit my Crisco diet, my cholesterol is way too high. I guess I will begin building me a fact book to counter their drug company sales pamphlet propaganda.
