Default Thanksgiving Menus

It's fun to see what everybody's making. Here's my Thanksgiving menu: Nibbles of smoked salmon spread and adult pimiento cheese, both with crostini and celery sticks, sweet/hot glazed nuts and pretzels (not for me - NFM), sparkling rosé. I don't like people to eat too much in advance.

Then starting with a light soup of Jerusalem artichokes and celery root, followed by turkey, dressing (NFM), gravy (NFM), mashed potatoes (NFM), sweet potato purée with maple syrup and chipotle (NFM), Brussels sprouts with shiitakes and cream, chickpea curry as a vegetarian main dish (NFM), spinach cake, red cabbage and hazelnut salad, cranberry sauce (NFM), and pickled peaches (NFM) (with a couple of low carb alternatives for me, cauliflower purée instead of potatoes, and pork rind dressing instead of bread dressing). A beautiful Irouleguy rosé and Beaujolais in the glass. Then brown butter pecan pie, pumpkin pie, lemon chess pie, and whipped cream (I'll just eat the cream, thank you). No wonder I've been cooking all week.

I am going to a friend's for dinner. I contributed a large Hutterite Chicken, they are roasting it so I can eat it and also making stuffed cornish game hens, probably (NFM). There will be cranberry salad (NFM), mashed potatoes (NFM), a Jicama dish that is new but from what I hear of the recipe.....(NFM). Not sure, there may be green beans or asparagus that I can eat, I am bringing a broccoli/cauliflower/cheese casserole so I am sure to have some veggies to eat. Not sure what is going to be for dessert, pretty sure it will be (NFM). A glass or two of champagne will round out the meal.

Abra, what is adult pimiento cheese?

Adult pimento cheese is enhanced with garlic, and we use lots of pimento, plus we make it with a 3 year aged Cheddar that is made here in WA by dairy management college students. I always thought pimento cheese was some nasty stuff in a jar, but this is so delicious I eat it with a spoon.

You could always offer to bring the whipped cream, and whip it with no sugar (what I do). Whatever dessert they serve is sure to go with whipped cream, and you can have a nice bowl of cream for yourself.

That sounds delish! I'm with you that stuff in jars is nasty!!

I don't mind passing on the dessert, I'm not that much of a dessert person actually. I am hoping to be able to make a batch of MCS's Ginger Snappies tomorrow. If I do, I'll take some of them with me.

I am probably doing the wrong thing, but I have decided that FOR THAT ONE MEAL AND THAT ONE MEAL ONLY I will enjoy all the traditional things our family has every Thanksgiving. I have always been the type of person that wants exactly the same menu for Thanksgiving that my mother, grandmother and great-grandmother prepared. I will try to enjoy in moderation (and no desserts, for sure!) and I believe I am strong enough to climb right back on the LCHF wagon after that one meal. I'll let y'all know!

don't know why anyone would skip dessert.
sugar free pumpkin pie is a great thing.
pumpkin cheesecake is a wonderful thing.

butternut squash soup.
spinach,brie stuffed artichoke hearts.
creamed pearl onions.

brussel sprouts made a 100 ways lol

green beans NOT made in a casserole with gross canned soup..

iwill be making a sweet tator of some sort for me. I will not be making any casserole with nasty marshmellows lol

saddley I won't be making my corn casserole nor my sour dough bread stuffing or cornbread stuffing.

I will make whipped califlower for me. No gravy
I say there is no reason to not have a great meal just becuz you are diabetic.

Hi Carolina - I just said no desserts because I have never had much of a sweet tooth - so not a problem for me to skip them entirely. I figure I would rather cheat with mashed potatoes and stuffing!

The absolute best thing I make at Thanksgiving is my great-grandmother's Pennsylvania Dutch potato "Filling". It's like mashed potatoes on steroids - mashed potatoes with lots of sauteed onion and celery folded in, and toasted whole wheat bread cubes, with extra butter, fresh parsley and beaten eggs also mixed in - then put in a casserole dish, dotted with more butter on top, and baked until golden brown. It is a food "O" if you catch my drift.

I go to my wife's aunt's house, there will be having turkey so dry you think you were eating cotton, tasteless Ham, Mac & Cheese. Bread pudding they call stuffing or dressing, southern terms. Lots of beans, peas, corn, biscuits. I will definitely eat something on my way there.
