Default LCHF Diet

I am new to this site and have been prediabetic for a year and probably longer, but on the border for Type 2 diagnosis. Is the LCHF Diet Ketogenic and is it a must to be ketogenic for BG normalization?
Love this site and forums!

It's not a must at all, just a way many of us control our diabetes. I doubt I would live in ketosis if I was what they call 'borderline' diabetic, though I know many would, but I would absolutely control my carbs and eat very differently from the way I had been, and test my blood glucose regularly so to stay in normal range.

All you need to do is: (i) Cut down carb intake, (ii) Reduce/limit TOTAL calorie intake, (iii) Exercise a bit, and (iv) Most importantly, check your glucose levels and/or take the Hb1Ac and lipid-panel blood report every 3-6 months.

If you are overweight, or your Hb1Ac and/or blood glucose levels aren't in line, then be more aggressive with (i)-(iii) [in that order, imo].

Hello & welcome, jrney. LCHF is a recipe for success in controlling your blood sugar, whether you go ketogenic or not. And you'll find that cutting carbs makes it virtually unnecessary to count calories. Weight begins to melt away almost without thinking about it. When you eat LCHF, you just want to make sure you get enough natural saturated fat and monounsaturated fat in your meals, so that you are providing enough fuel for your body's energy needs. The object is to replace carbs with fats. Just eat until you're full . . . you'll find you are satiated much more and more quickly on protein & fats.

We're happy to have you join us, and I hope you'll be visiting us often!

I just now realized that I believe in pre-D diagnosis. I once was full blown type 2, now, thanks to being in ketosis, I would fall into the pre-D range again. WooHoo.

Welcome to the forum jrney2. See, there is hope.

No need for Ketosis. Just low enough carb and protein to control your BG!
Do you have the link for BS101?

You don't need the book unless you are someone who likes hard copy. Blood Sugar 101 has everything the book has and more.

Low Carb AND Protein? How many grams/ounces of each should I be eating per day?

Can you please provide the link for the BS101?

Thanks for everything in advance.

I live in ketosis because of:

1. Blood sugar
2. Cancer
3. Alzheimer's
4. General well-being, mental alertness and endurance
5. Optimal weight without effort
6. Freedom from 'portion control'

And probably lots of other stuff don't even know about yet. Knowing what I know now, I'd stick with it even if my diabetes somehow disappeared tomorrow. But, strictly blood sugar control, low-carb but not ketogenic may suffice for many people.
