Default Diabetic snack bars

Just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Glucose at 225. looking for good snack bars. All in my local super market are packed with sugar or fat.

I am sure this has been asked many times. But i could use some advice.

Glucerna bars are the ones I have heard about the most. I have not tried them but I have seen other diabetics write good things about them.

I know a dietitian who recommends Extend bars at bed time to help prevent DP (Dawn Phenomenon-high sugar) from occurring in the morning.

Glucerna products are very high in carbs. Be sure you know what you are doing, and capable of ingesting before you pay all that money for something. I heard of them, and went to WallyWorld and first almost passed out when I saw the price. Then I looked at the carbs, and realized it was not for me. Others should check it out for themselves.

Glucerna Snack Bars
25 carbs.
1g protein
3 sugars
Sugar Alcohols 10g

I am still learning, but those numbers should make a diabetic stop and think long and hard, for just a snack bar.

Quaker granola bars have 19 carbs, no sugar alcohols, and only a few g of sugar. Event those bump me up pretty good for a short time.

Never seen the extend bars, but their web site nutrition table doesn't look much better than the glucerna bars.

What works for some, may not for others. That is the "beauty" of diabetes :-)
