Default Should I be concerned about the sugar in processed meats?

Every bacon/processed meat I see in the stores here seems to have sugar added to it. The amount of carbs is minimal. Usually sugar or dextrose etc is third on the ingredients list....Should I be avoiding these?

Of course you should be concerned! It's going in your mouth, isn't it? If you can find sugar-free, by all means use it. I know it's available online - you'll have to Google for it.

I started buying meat directly from the local butcher's shop. He carries a bigger selection of meats that are not processed. You may want to check in your area to see what's available.

Where I am, almost all the processed meat contain even worse things like soy protein. If I look through a lot of brands, I can usually find one without creepy ingredients, sugar or otherwise. Real meat is always better if you can get it and prepare it.

Shanny, Mary, and Freya like this.

Pink if you like cold meat (and we all do at this time of the year) buy something like silverside and cook it and then slice to your liking. More nutritious and cheaper than buying packaged stuff from the supermarket.

Bacon is a problem - I get mine from a butcher who only sells organic meat with no additives. You may have to try and seek one out.
