Default radical diet, danger

hi i dont speek english to well but i will try and explain my prblem.

i want to loose some waight and started eating very little and i am doing sport every day.

i take basal insulin in the eavening. and a few units along the day.

i eat about 50 grams of carbohydrates a day.

do i run danger of a ketoazidosis? or is that impossible if my bloodsugar levels are normal?

Keacidosis will not occur if your blood sugar is normal, or close to normal. It does not usually occur unless the blood sugar level is 250 (13.9) or higher. You can buy strips for testing your blood or your urine for Keacidosis. The only danger I can see in your plan is that you are eating only 50 grams of carbs per day. That is considerably below normal and can cause you to become very tired and you can lose your energy. The brain requires more than 50 carbs per day to enable you to think clearly. Exercising also requires carbs, more carbs than are available in your case. Your liver will produce a lot of carbs when your body needs them and you are not getting enough when you eat. The liver might produce a large amount of carbs though and that could possibly cause you to have high blood sugar. You could have higher blood sugar after exercising than before exercising if your liver produces carbs during your exercise routine. I cannot function well unless I eat at least 100 carbs per day. I actually feel my best at 120 or more carbs per day. All people are different though. I have a friend who eats only 75 carbs per day and he says he has energy and feels good. Good luck to you!

For the month of March, I'm averaging 221g of carbs, 60g of protein and 35g of fat (10 poly, 8.8 mono,3.6 g sat, 0 trans) per day. I've dropped 5 pounds (160 [clothed w/shoes] to 155 for the month so far). My target weight is 150. My weight when I started in January was 172.

The prevailing theory behind the GI diets (what I've been doing to control my pre-diabetes) is that some kinds of carbs are bad, some moderate, some good. As an example, for dinner tonight I had 350g of broccoli steamed (23g of carbs, 9g of fiber almost 10g of protein) , 1/2 cup of red peppers, diced (3 g of carbs, 1 g fiber and .4 g of protein) and 2 oz of Barilla Plus spaghetti with 1/2 cup 3 cheese marinara sauce (43 g of carbs, 5g fiber and 13g protein 8.5g of fat [2.5g sat]). All of the carbs I ate at dinner have a low (good) GI carbs. I get 90 g of carbs at breakfast (I have the same thing every day. 1 grapefruit, 1/2 cup old fashioned oatmeal w/2 tbsp flaxseed [ground] and 1/4 cup skim milk and 1 cup of low sodium V8 juice). Lunch varies but I typically have 2 non-fat hot dogs, 1/2cup sauerkraut and a romain lettuce salad with 3 tbs of low-fat, low-salt dressings and some form of legume mixed with salsa that runs another 70g of carbs.

Hi:

Gee, 50 grs. a day. I'm not sure how you can think straight(I think you're brain needs about 100 grs. a day to think clearly but as Richard said, we
are different and we can adapt differently.

I've gone 3 days without eating anything except for a a glass of juice and
a handful of almonds the 2nd and 3rd evenings. I didn't do it to lose weight but because my sugar was high for some reason. I was Fine but after my sugars came back to normal I went back to my usual diet. I find it Good to fast occasionally.

You may be speaking more of Ketosis and or Ketogenic Diet. Many People do use this as a type of diet to lose weight. It supposedly is not dangerous for short term. Certainly someone with Diabetes would have to test their blood sugar and ketones often to remain in the safe zone.

Ketosis is a natural process that occurs when fats are converted into energy by the body -- usually when there is not enough glucose (carbohydrates) to provide for the body's energy needs. Instead, the fat is broken down into energy, and "ketone bodies" are the molecular by-products of this metabolic process.

Ketosis may occur during fasting, after an extended period of exercise, or when a high-fat/low carb diet is followed. It can also happen during an illness when nausea and/or vomiting make it difficult to keep food down.

Ketosis in and of itself is not a harmful process and occurs among diabetics and non-diabetics.

However, when ketone levels become excessively high, a condition known as diabetic ketoacidosis, aka DKA, can occur.

about carbs:
True,your brain requires about 100 grams of glucose.
You can function just fine with zero carb intake because you body will
either use stored glycogen or your liver will produce the required glucose
from stored protein.Note that,on a restricted carb intake,fat and protein
must replace carbs.I probably average about 50 grams of carbs per day
and I function okay.
about calories and weight loss:
Beware of very low calorie diets.They will cause your body to go into
starvation mode and shut down your metabolism to a very inefficient
state.Probably better to calculate your minimum calories for a day and subtract something like 700.Optimal weight loss is slow-maybe a pound or 2
a week.Starvation/fasting for a period of time greater than 3 days causes
damage to the body-you lose muscle rather than fat.
Diet pills:"This must work.I can't lie on television."
Yeah,right!
