Default Tasty breakfast and mid-day snack

For breakfast, as of May 1st and the first day of my LCHF diet, I now eat a two-egg, cheese omelet cooked in coconut oil. I hadn't eaten cheese or many eggs for years. You all know this is great for our BG and A1c.
My new favorite daily snack is about 1/2 cup of whole milk, Fage, plain yogurt with a generous handful of Costco's, lightly salted, fancy mixed nuts and one tablespoon of Torani or DaVince sugar free syrup.

May 1, 2014 began LCHF, stopped statin
goal = 5.0 A1c with good lipids

Test very carefully after those snacks, 1xs. Milk is loaded with lactose (milk sugar), and even the yogurt is suspect. I would suggest mixing your Fage with equal amounts of heavy cream to increase the fat content and mitigate all the carbs.

As for the milk - it was my all time favorite drink for 65 years. I can no longer drink it - I don't even buy it. It spikes my blood sugar something awful. You may be a lucky one who can tolerate it all right, but I'm just saying be sure to test, test, test.

Default Milk

Shanny, I miss stated in my last post. I almost totally eliminated milk on May 1st, when I went LCHF. Forever I have been a classic zero fat, zero cholesterol, high fiber statin taking guy. I now use whipping cream and/or unsweetened soy milk to lighten my coffee. I meant to say full fat, Fage brand, Greek style yogurt as opposed to their 0% fat yogurt although they both contain only 4.5 g of carbs per 1/2 cup. I just figure the full fat variety will slow down how fast those 4.5 g of carbs hit my system.
I will continue to test constantly but I'm pretty convinced that this snack causes a very minimal increase in my BG. I test at 30, 45, 60 and 90 min. Maybe I should also test at 120 min. incase the nuts and high fat yogurt are causing a delayed carb effect.

You're lucky to be able to find full fat Fage . . . there's none to be found down here in the Ozarks - 2% occasionally.

Add me to the 'no full-fat yogurt in town' team.

Bob, I encourage you to add the 120 minute test. I find fatty meals/snacks take two or three hours to reach their BG zenith. From reading here, I suspect this is not uncommon.

My Walmart has even quit getting the Fage 0%. Its not like they can ever order what they want, they just get what their distribution center decides they should have. Seems like every time I really like something, they quit getting it. Maybe corporate WM hates me.

I have to go a couple of towns over to find any full-fat yogurt. It's almost like full-fat anything is against the law in these parts.

I was surprised to find this full fat Fage brand yogurt myself and I'm not sure I will find it again. Specs off the label, serving size 1 cup, calories 220, calories from fat 100, total fat 11 g, saturated fat 8 g, cholesterol 30 mg, sodium 80 mg, total carbs 9 g (same as their zero fat), protein 20 g.
I'm having this snack right now and I'll test in 120 min. to see if it still doesn't raise my BG.
