Meals that hold over longer

Bobby's update.... BS avg is 107. His energy level is increasing. Biggest complaint is trying to find meals or foods that sustain his hunger longer. He is constantly grazing all day long LOL. Well, he is eating often but small meals. We are looking for ways to keep his BS steady for a longer period. Maybe more protein?

Actually 6 smaller meals are better for diabetics. I would try to add small amounts of fat at meals. Things like peanut butter, almond butter, coconut oil or avacado are great sources of fat. The fat seems to stabalize my bgs better.

Probably for some, but not for me. I do best with 6 hours or more between meals. This gives my BG plenty of time to return to baseline. If I eat too often, extra glucose sneaks in (even if from proteins), I stay above 90 more or less all day and morning number will be into the 90's as the stored glycogen gets released via DP.

For me, eating many meals or snacking between them is just another bad habit I don't want to keep around after DX. Plus, because I eat LC/HF, eating in less than 5 hours violates my cardinal rule: never eat when not hungry. It takes me at least 5 or 6 hours to experience anything remotely resembling hunger. (That old gnawing hunger of my HC days is totally a memory now.) Eating because "it's time" or out of habit always has negative results for me.

When I got my diabetes the nutrition expert told me to eat 6 small meals each day. I didn`t feel well doing that, I was always hungry and my BG were not steady at all.
Now I eat LCHF and have 3 meals a day. My BG is steady and I am not hungry anymore.
When the body uses fat for energy, we get a energy source thet last longer. We wont be hungry to soon after a meal.
If the body is using protein for energy, it is hard for the body and much of the energy produced will disappear in the process. To much proteins will also lead to our kidney have to work very hard.
If the body uses carbohydrates as energy source, it is really easy for the body, but the energy will not last for long, and we have to eat many times a day. It will also lead to a BG that is not steady at all.

I find carbs ask for more carbs, so I'd advise eating very low carb with plenty of fats, protein, and veggies for longer lasting periods of no hunger for Bobby, Debster. After a waffle or such for b'fast, I've always noticed being hungry for protein soon afterwards. It makes me wonder how long I've had problems?
