Neily - what was your BG level at 1hr after eating those liquid carbs?

It just occurred to me (not too quick on the uptake anymore ) that if you set your oven a little higher - like 400°/425° - you prob'ly wouldn't need to turn these over halfway through. I just use the default setting of 350°, and flipping them speeds up the process.

It was too high. I am experimenting with different foods to see how they affect my BSL. I have discovered that refried beans actually lowers my BSL. Thank you for your concern. I am NOT by any means, suggesting my diet for anyone else. We are all unique. One man's crap is another man's caviar. I wish us all the best of luck with our numbers.

You aren't fooling anybody here, Neily . . . we are all veterans of the diabetes wars and we know how these foods impact blood sugar levels. And we are not idiots, so you cannot hide behind 'we are all unique'. We are not THAT unique, and carbs raise blood sugar. That is a fundamental medical fact.

We are not just about to take your word for this unless you are willing to post your one, two and possibly three-hour postprandial test results along with your refried bean meals. Same with your whole grain pasta meals, and all the other high-carb foods you say you can eat without spiking.

You say you are monitoring your blood sugar, but I don't believe you are testing at the one-hour interval, if you are even testing at all. You can dispel my doubts by posting your numbers, and that is the ONLY way I will believe what you say.

So pony up your postprandial numbers (1-hour, 2-hour and even 3-hour, if your levels aren't dropping after 2 hours) or shut up about your refried beans.

Neily, I don't understand why you continue to post meals that contain so many carbs, and then don't post what your pp BG readings are. This thread is here to give examples of foods and meals that will help a diabetic keep their BG levels under control.

Had the other half of the salmon from yesterday, a stalk of celery with cream cheese and unsweetened ice tea. 96 before. 101 at 1 hr PP. Ate late so it hasn't been 2 hrs yet.

An Applegate hot dog with a bit of red onion sautéed in avocado oil topped with a squeeze of yellow mustard and a tsp of dill pickle relish. About an ounce of sliced Roma tomato as a side. Diet tonic water to drink.

I don't usually have lunch, but I found the package of the hot dogs in the back of my freezer and knew I needed to get to eating them!! Will just have egg drop soup with some greens that need to be eaten soon for dinner, with a big pat of butter in it!

I made a coupla pans of bacon weaves again this weekend, and tried increasing the oven temperature. This might work with others' ovens, but with mine, while the bacon didn't burn, the bacon grease got too hot & black gunk formed, so it wasn't good for saving. I shoulda taken a picture to explain better, but I never think of that.

Oh! And these weaves are plenty sturdy to use in place of lettuce for your BLTs . . . as long as you don't mind having six slices of bacon in your sandwich!
